Daniel 1:1-21
For the third year wey King Je·hoiʹa·kim of Judah de rule, Neb·u·chad·nezʹzar wey be king of Babylon come Jerusalem and surround-am.
After some time, Jehovah put Je·hoiʹa·kim wey be king of Judah for the hand of King Neb·u·chad·nezʹzar together with some of the things wey them de use for the house* of the true God, and e bring them come the land of Shiʹnar* to the house* of im god. E keep the things for where e de keep the better-better things of im god.
Then the king command Ashʹpe·naz wey be oga of the people wey get high position for im palace, say make e bring some Israel people,* even the ones wey come from king family and other important families.
Them go be young people* wey no get problem for their body, wey fine, wey get sense, wey know things, and get the sense to understand something well, and wey fit work for the king palace. Ashʹpe·naz go teach them how to write and speak the language of Chal·deʹa people.
Another thing be say, the king command say, everyday make them give them wetin them go chop and drink from the better-better food wey the king de chop and the wine wey e de drink. Them go train* them for three years, and for the end of that time, them go start to work for the king.
And among the people wey them bring come, some of them na from the tribe* of Judah. Them be: Daniel,* Han·a·niʹah,* Mishʹa·el,* and Az·a·riʹah.*
And the oga of the people wey get high position for palace give them names.* E name Daniel, Bel·te·shazʹzar, e name Han·a·niʹah, Shaʹdrach, e name Mishʹa·el, Meʹshach, and e name Az·a·riʹah, A·bedʹne·go.
But Daniel don decide for im heart say e no go dirty imself with the better-better food wey the king de chop or the wine wey e de drink. So e take permission from the oga of the people wey get high position for palace say e no want dirty imself with this things.
And the true God make the oga of the people wey get high position for palace to show Daniel favor* and mercy.
But the oga tell Daniel say: “I de fear my lord the king wey don command me to give una food and drink. What if e see say una no fine for body like the other young people* wey dey the same age with una? Una go make me* be bad person for the eyes of the king.”
But Daniel tell the guard wey the oga don choose to care for Daniel, Han·a·niʹah, Mishʹa·el, and Az·a·riʹah say:
“Abeg, test your servants for ten days, and give us vegetables to chop and water to drink;
then compare how we be with the other young people* wey de chop the better-better food of the king, and from wetin you see, decide wetin you go do to your servants.”
So e agree with wetin them talk and e test them for ten days.
For the end of the ten days, the way their body be better and strong* pass all the other young people* wey de chop the better-better food of the king.
So the guard de take their better-better food and wine comot and e de give them vegetables.
And the true God make this four young people* to know and to get deep sense about every kind of writing and all kind of sense; and e make Daniel understand all kind of visions and dreams.
When the three years don end, wey the king say make them bring them come im front, the oga of the people wey get high position bring them come front of Neb·u·chad·nezʹzar.
When the king talk with them, e no see anybody for the whole group wey be like Daniel, Han·a·niʹah, Mishʹa·el, and Az·a·riʹah; and them continue to serve the king.
For every matter wey the king go ask them about, wey go need person wey get sense and de understand things, e see say them better ten times pass all the priests wey de do magic and the people wey de use spirit power know wetin people no know for the whole of im kingdom.
And Daniel continue to dey there go reach the first year wey King Cyrus start to rule.
