Jonah 4:1-11
4 But this thing no make Joʹnah happy at all, and e vex no be small.
2 So e pray to Jehovah say: “Ah, Jehovah, no be this thing de worry my mind when I dey my own land? Na im make me try to run go Tarʹshish before; because I know say you be God wey de feel for person* and wey de show mercy, you no de quick vex, and you de always show love wey no de fail, you be person wey no de happy to bring trouble for people.
3 Now, O Jehovah, abeg take my life,* because e better for me to die than to dey alive.”
4 Jehovah ask-am say: “E good as you de vex so?”
5 Then Joʹnah comot go outside the city and sitdown for the east side of the city. E make one shade for imself for there and sitdown for under the shade to see wetin go happen to the city.
6 Then Jehovah God make one bottle-gourd plant* to grow cover Joʹnah, so that e go get shade wey go cover im head and im condition go better. And the bottle-gourd plant really make Joʹnah happy no be small.
7 But the true God send worm when day don de break the next day, and the worm attack the bottle-gourd plant and the plant die.
8 When sun start to shine, God still send one east wind wey hot well-well, and the sun de hit Joʹnah for head, and e come de weak de go. E continue to beg say make e die,* and e continue to talk say, “E better for me to die than to dey alive.”
9 God ask Joʹnah say: “E good as you really de vex about the bottle-gourd plant?”
So e talk say: “I get right to vex, and I de vex sotey I want die.”
10 But Jehovah talk say: “You sorry for the bottle-gourd plant, wey you no work for and wey be say no be you make-am grow; e grow for one night and die for one night.
11 I no suppose still sorry for Ninʹe·veh the great city, wey more than 120,000 men dey inside, wey no even know the difference between wetin correct and wetin no correct,* plus their plenty animals?”
