UJesu nakafundisa abantu esifundeni seKhesariya Filipi, epheze ibe makhilomitha ama-25 ukusuka eNtabeni iRherimoni, wenza isaziso esirara abapostoli bakhe, uthi: “Ngiqinisile ngithi kini, kunabanye abajame lapha abangekhe bafe bangakayiboni iNdodana yomuntu iza emBuswenayo.”​—Matewu 16:28.

Abafundi kufanele bona bayazibuza ukuthi utjho ukuthini uJesu. Pheze ngemva kweveke, uthatha abapostoli abathathu​—uPitrosi, uJakopo, noJwanisi​—ukhuphuka nabo baya entabeni ede. Kungenzeka kusebusuku, ngombana amadoda amathathu la ayayenda. UJesu nakasathandazako, uyatjhuguluka phambi kwabo. Abapostoli babona ubuso bakhe buphazimula njengelanga, izambatho zakhe zimanyazela njengokukhanya begodu zimhlophe twa.

Ngemva kwalokho kuvela abantu ababili, ‘uMosi no-Eliya.’ Bathoma ukukhuluma noJesu “ngokukhamba kwakhe, ebesekuzokwenzeka eJerusalema.” (Lukasi 9:30, 31) Kuyabonakala bona nabakhuluma ngokukhamba kwakhe baqalisela ekufeni kwakaJesu nokuvuswa kwakhe, akhulume ngakho mvanje. (Matewu 16:21) Ingcoco le itjengisa ukuthi ngokuhlukileko kilokho ebekutjhiwo nguPitrosi, ukufa okuhlazisako kwakaJesu akusiyinto engagegedwa.

Abapostoli abathathwaba bavukile bebaqaqulukile begodu bamangele ngalokho abakuzwako nabakubonako. Mbono lo, kodwana ubonakala ngasuthi wenzeka kwamambala kangangokuthi uPitrosi uyazifaka engcocweni, uthi: “Rabi, kuhle ngathi ukuba lapha. Nje-ke sivumela ukuthi sihlome amatende amathathu, elinye kube ngelakho, elinye kube ngelakaMosi, bese elinye kube ngelaka-Eliya.” (Markosi 9:5) Kghani ibanga lokuthi uPitrosi afune kuhlonywe amatende kukobana ufuna umbono lo ungapheli?

UPitrosi nakasakhulumako bagubuzeswa lilifu eliphazimulako begodu kuzwakala iphimbo lithi: “Le yiNdodanami, engiyithandako, engiyamukeleko. Yilaleleni.” Nabezwa iphimbo lakaZimu, abapostoli bayathukwa baguqa phasi bakhothamisa iinhloko, kodwana uJesu uthi kibo: “Vukani. Ningasabi.” (Matewu 17:5-7) Nabaphakamisa iinhloko, ababoni omunye umuntu ngaphandle kwakaJesu. Umbono uphelile. Ngelanga elilandelako nabehla entabeni, uJesu uyabayala uthi: “Ningatjeli muntu ngombono lo bekube kulapho iNdodana yomuntu ivuswa kwabafileko.”​—Matewu 17:9.

Ukubonakala kwaka-Eliya embonweni kuvusa umbuzo. Abapostoli bayabuza bathi: “Kubayini-ke, abatloli bathi u-Eliya kufuze eze qangi?” UJesu uyabaphendula: “U-Eliya uzile, kodwana azange bamlemuke.” (Matewu 17:10-12) UJesu ukhuluma ngoJwanisi uMbhabhadisi, odlale indima efana neka-Eliya. U-Eliya walungiselela u-Elitjha indlela, noJwanisi wenzele uKrestu okufanako.

Umbono lo umqinise khulu uJesu nabapostoli! Utjengisa lokho okuzokwenzeka uKrestu nakaphazinyuliswako emBusweni. Nje-ke njengokuthembisa kwakaJesu, abafundi babone “iNdodana yomuntu iza emBuswenayo.” (Matewu 16:28) Lokha nabasentabeni, abafundi babe ‘bofakazi bobukhulu bakhe.’ Nanyana abaFarisi bebafuna isibonakaliso esifakazela ukuthi uJesu bekazokuba yiKosi ekhethwe nguZimu, zange abanikele. Kodwana abafundi bakaJesu abaseduze naye bavunyelwa ukubona uJesu atjhugululwa, isenzakalo esiqinisekisa iimphorofido ezimayelana nomBuso. Kungebangelo uPitrosi ngemva kwesikhathi atlola ukuthi: “Sinelizwi lesiphorofido elenziwe laqiniseka ngokungeziweko.”​—2 Pitrosi 1:16-19.
