“Batjhumayeli BeBhrithani—Akhenivuke!!”

KWAZWAKALA isibawo esiqinileko tle esithi: “Batjhumayeli BeBhrithani—Akhenivuke!!” (Informant, * kaDecember 1937, incwadi yeLondon) Bese kwathi isihlokwana sayo naso esiqakathekileko sathi: “Eminyakeni Elitjhumi Yoke Abe Akunamehluko Okarisako.” Ikhasi elisekuthomeni lencwadi lakufakazela lokho, ngombana laveza indlela umsebenzi wokutjhumayela okhamba ngayo, laveza umbiko kusukela ngomnyaka ka-1928 kuya ku-1937 okuminyaka epheze ibe litjhumi.

KGHANI KUNAMAPHAYONA AMANENGI?

Kazi yini eyenza umsebenzi wokutjhumayela eBhrithani wananaba senwabu? Kukuthi amabandla besele athoma “ukudosa iinyawo,” kungasafani nangaphambili. Negatja lalapho labe labona kuncono ukuthi amaphayona asebenze ngokuhlukana kunokuthi asebenze namabandla, labe lathi akusale amaphayona angaba ma-200 bese amanye ayokutjhumayela kwezinye iindawo. “THATHANI AMAGADANGO”

I-Informant yango-1937 yabeka umgomo obewungaba budisi ukuwufikelela, yathi ngomnyaka ka-1938 kufuze kwenziwe ama-awara asi-1 000 000! Umgomo lo bewungafinyelelwa bulula nange umtjhumayeli ngamunye angenza ama-awara ali-15 bese kuthi iphayona ngalinye lenze ali-110 qobe nyanga. Banikelwa nendlela encono yokwenza lokhu, kwathiwa akhe bahlele ukuthi kube nomhlangano wokuya esimini okungenani amalanga amhlanu evekeni, begodu okufuze bakutjheje khulu kubuyela ebantwini abafuna ukwazi ngoZimu khulukhulu malanga ntambama.

Amaphayona akhutheleko la, azikhandla ekutjhumayeleni

Amatjhuguluko wokuthuthukisa umsebenzi wokutjhumayela la abathinta tle abanengi. UHilda Padgett ukhumbula indlela azizwa ngayo uthi, “Kazi bekusibawo esivela emzimkhulu, inengi lethu sasithathela phezulu, kwaba nemiphumela emihle khulu.”  * Udade u- E. F.  Wallis yena-ke uthi, “Into yokuthi kube nomhlangano wokuya esimini amalanga amahlanu evekeni yasiza khulu! Yini enye ethabisa ukudlula ukusebenzisa amalangakho usebenzele uZimu? . . . Iye khona besibuya sidiniwe ngamanye amalanga, kodwana engingakutjho kukuthi besithabe tle!” UStephen Miller nanyana bekasakhula ngesikhatheso, walemuka ukuthi isibawesi sirhabekile, yeke akhenge asariyada. I-Informant yenza esinye isibawo yathi: “Sitlhoga ibutho lamaphayona ayi-1 000.” Kwabekwa nomthetho omutjha othi amaphayona angasasebenzi wodwa kodwana asebenze namabandla khona azokwazi nokukhuthaza abanye abafowethu. UJoyce Ellis (née Barber) nakakhumbula okwenzeka ngesikhatheso uthi, “Abazalwana nabodade abanengi balemuka ukuthi kufuze bathome  ukuphayona. Ngitjho nanyana bengineminyaka eli-13 ngesikhatheso, kodwana nakukuphayona khona, bengikufuna tle.” Kwathi nakaneminyaka eli-15 wawufinyelela umgomakhe wokuba liphayona, bekungoJulayi 1940. UPeter naye wasizwa isibawo esithi “Akhenivuke” begodu “wathoma wacabangisisa ngaso, bewafuna nokuphayona.” Ngokukhamba kwesikhathi waba yindoda kaJoyce. Bese kwathi nakaneminyaka eli-17 ngoJuni 1940, wareya ibhayisigirakhe watjho ayikhombe eScarborough esabelweni sakhe esitjha sokuphayona, begodu ukuya lapho bekumakhilomitha ali-105.

UCyril noKitty Johnson bebamaphayona azidelako emsebenzinawo. Baqunta ukuthengisa indlwabo nezinye izinto ukuze baziphilise ngemali leyo lokha nabaphayonako. KWAFUNWA IINDAWO ZOKUHLALA ZAMAPHAYONA

UJim Carr obekambonisi wendawo (kwanjesi sebabizwa bona bajikelezi) ngo-1938 naye wayisekela indaba yokuthi kube nezindlu zamaphayona eendaweni ezihlukahlukeneko. Iinqhema zamaphayona zakhuthazwa bona zihlale ndawonye bezitjhumayele ndawonye, ukuze kongiwe imali. Esheffield kwaqatjhwa indlu ekulu, bekwabekwa nomzalwana ozokuba mnqophisi lapho. Bese amabandla aseduze wona asekela ngeminikelo nangefenitjhara. UJim uthi: “Woke umuntu bekazimisele ukubona koke lokhu kuphumelela.” Bekuba namaphayona ali-10 ahlala endaweni leyo, ebekufuze akwenze kukuthi akwenze umkhuba ufunda ngoZimu. “Qobe langa umtlolo welanga bewudenjwa ekuseni lapho kuselelwa khona itiye, bese ngemva kwalokho amaphayona bekakhamba ayokutjhumayela eendaweni ezihlukahlukeneko emasimini abelwe wona.”

Amaphayona amatjha atheleka eBhrithani ayokutjhumayela

Abatjhamayeli namaphayona boke basilalela isibawesi, begodu basebenza babambisene bona bafinyelele umgomo wokwenza ama-awara asi-1 000 000 ngomnyaka ka-1938. Nanamhlanjesi isibalo samaphoyona weBhrithani sisakhula, khulukhulu njengombana ipi ye-Arimagedoni ibandamela. Isibalo samaphoyona sifike ezingeni eliphezulu khulu eminyakeni elitjhumi, ngo-Oktoba 2015 besizii-13 224 begodu bekukokuthoma sifika esibalwenesi. Amaphayona la ayaqiniseka ukuthi ayikho indlela encono yokuphila ukudlula ukusebenzisa isikhathi sawo ekusebenzeleni uZimu isikhathi esizeleko.
