6  Καὶ And ἐξῆλθεν he went outἐκεῖθεν, from there,καὶ andἔρχεται is comingεἰς intoτὴν theπατρίδα father (place)αὐτοῦ, of himκαὶ andἀκολουθοῦσιν are followingαὐτῷ to himοἱ theμαθηταὶ disciplesαὐτοῦ. of him. 2  Καὶ And γενομένου having come to beσαββάτου of sabbathἤρξατο he startedδιδάσκειν to be teachingἐν inτῇ theσυναγωγῇ· synagogue;καὶ andοἱ theπολλοὶ manyἀκούοντες hearingἐξεπλήσσοντο were astoundedλέγοντες sayingΠόθεν From whereτούτῳ to this (one)ταῦτα, these (things),καὶ andτίς whattheσοφία wisdomtheδοθεῖσα givenτούτῳ, to this (one),καὶ andαἱ theδυνάμεις powerful worksτοιαῦται suchδιὰ throughτῶν theχειρῶν handsαὐτοῦ of himγινόμεναι; taking place? 3  οὐχ Not οὗτός this (one)ἐστιν istheτέκτων, carpenter,theυἱὸς sonτῆς of theΜαρίας Maryκαὶ andἀδελφὸς brotherἸακώβου of Jamesκαὶ andἸωσῆτος of Josesκαὶ andἸούδα of Judaκαὶ andΣίμωνος; of Simon?καὶ Andοὐκ notεἰσὶν areαἱ theἀδελφαὶ sistersαὐτοῦ of himὧδε hereπρὸς towardἡμᾶς; 38  The (one) δὲ butλέγει is sayingαὐτοῖς to themΠόσους How manyἔχετε are YOU havingἄρτους; loaves?ὑπάγετε Be YOU going underἴδετε. see.καὶ Andγνόντες having come to knowλέγουσιν they are sayingΠέντε, Five,καὶ andδύο twoἰχθύας. fishes. 39  καὶ And ἐπέταξεν he gave ordersαὐτοῖς to themἀνακλιθῆναι to reclineπάντας all (ones)συμπόσια symposiumsσυμπόσια symposiumsἐπὶ uponτῷ theχλωρῷ greenχόρτῳ. grass. 40  καὶ And ἀνέπεσαν they fell upπρασιαὶ garden rowsπρασιαὶ garden rowsκατὰ according toἑκατὸν hundredκαὶ andκατὰ according toπεντήκοντα. fifty. 41  καὶ And λαβὼν having takenτοὺς theπέντε fiveἄρτους loavesκαὶ andτοὺς theδύο twoἰχθύας fishesἀναβλέψας having looked upεἰς intoτὸν theοὐρανὸν heavenεὐλόγησεν he blessedκαὶ andκατέκλασεν broke downτοὺς theἄρτους loavesκαὶ andἐδίδου he was givingτοῖς to theμαθηταῖς disciplesἵνα in order thatπαρατιθῶσιν they may put besideαὐτοῖς, them,καὶ andτοὺς theδύο twoἰχθύας fishesἐμέρισεν he dividedπᾶσιν. to all. 42  καὶ And ἔφαγον they ateπάντες all (they)καὶ andἐχορτάσθησαν· were satisfied; 43  καὶ and ἦραν they lifted upκλάσματα fragmentsδώδεκα twelveκοφίνων of basketsπληρώματα fillingsκαὶ andἀπὸ fromτῶν theἰχθύων. fishes. 44  καὶ And ἦσαν wereοἱ the (ones)φαγόντες having eatenτοὺς theἄρτους loavesπεντακισχίλιοι five thousandἄνδρες. male persons. 45  Καὶ And εὐθὺς at onceἠνάγκασεν he put under necessityτοὺς theμαθητὰς disciplesαὐτοῦ of himἐμβῆναι to step insideεἰς intoτὸ theπλοῖον boatκαὶ andπροάγειν to be going beforeεἰς intoτὸ theπέραν other sideπρὸς towardΒηθσαιδάν, Bethsaida,ἕως untilαὐτὸς heἀπολύει lets loose offτὸν theὄχλον. crowd. 46  καὶ And ἀποταξάμενος having set self offαὐτοῖς to themἀπῆλθεν he went offεἰς intoτὸ theὄρος mountainπροσεύξασθαι. to pray. 47  καὶ And ὀψίας of eveningγενομένης having come to beἦν wasτὸ theπλοῖον boatἐν inμέσῳ midstτῆς of theθαλάσσης, sea,καὶ andαὐτὸς heμόνος aloneἐπὶ uponτῆς theγῆς. earth. 48  καὶ And ἰδὼν having seenαὐτοὺς themβασανιζομένους being tormentedἐν inτῷ theἐλαύνειν, to be driving,ἦν wasγὰρ fortheἄνεμος windἐναντίος in oppositionαὐτοῖς, to them,περὶ aboutτετάρτην fourthφυλακὴν watchτῆς of theνυκτὸς nightἔρχεται he comesπρὸς towardαὐτοὺς themπεριπατῶν walking aboutἐπὶ uponτῆς theθαλάσσης· sea;καὶ andἤθελεν he was willingπαρελθεῖν to go pastαὐτούς. them. 49  οἱ The (ones) δὲ butἰδόντες having seenαὐτὸν himἐπὶ uponτῆς theθαλάσσης seaπεριπατοῦντα walking aboutἔδοξαν thoughtὅτι thatφάντασμά apparitionἐστιν it isκαὶ andἀνέκραξαν, they cried aloud, 50  πάντες all γὰρ forαὐτὸν himεἶδαν sawκαὶ andἐταράχθησαν. were troubled.The (one)δὲ butεὐθὺς at onceἐλάλησεν spokeμετ’ withαὐτῶν, them,καὶ andλέγει he is sayingαὐτοῖς to themΘαρσεῖτε, Be YOU taking courage,ἐγώ Iεἰμι, am,μὴ notφοβεῖσθε. be YOU fearful. 51  καὶ And ἀνέβη he stepped upπρὸς towardαὐτοὺς themεἰς intoτὸ theπλοῖον, boat,καὶ andἐκόπασεν abatedtheἄνεμος. wind.καὶ Andλίαν very muchἐν inἑαυτοῖς themselvesἐξίσταντο, they were amazed, 52  οὐ not γὰρ forσυνῆκαν they got perceptionἐπὶ uponτοῖς theἄρτοις, loaves,ἀλλ’ butἦν wasαὐτῶν of themtheκαρδία heartπεπωρωμένη. having been dulled. 53  Καὶ And διαπεράσαντες having crossed throughἐπὶ uponτὴν theγῆν earthἦλθον they cameεἰς intoΓεννησαρὲτ Gennesaretκαὶ andπροσωρμίσθησαν. were anchored toward. 54  καὶ And ἐξελθόντων having gone outαὐτῶν of themἐκ out ofτοῦ theπλοίου boatεὐθὺς at onceἐπιγνόντες having recognizedαὐτὸν him 55  περιέδραμον they ran around ὅλην wholeτὴν theχώραν countryἐκείνην thatκαὶ andἤρξαντο startedἐπὶ uponτοῖς theκραβάττοις cotsτοὺς the (ones)κακῶς badlyἔχοντας havingπεριφέρειν to be carrying aroundὅπου whereἤκουον they were hearingὅτι thatἔστιν. he is. 56  καὶ And ὅπου whereἂν likelyεἰσεπορεύετο he was going his way inεἰς intoκώμας villagesorεἰς intoπόλεις citiesorεἰς intoἀγροὺς fieldsἐν inταῖς theἀγοραῖς marketplacesἐτίθεσαν they were puttingτοὺς the (ones)ἀσθενοῦντας, being sick,καὶ andπαρεκάλουν they were entreatingαὐτὸν himἵνα in order thatκἂν and if everτοῦ of theκρασπέδου fringeτοῦ of theἱματίου outer garmentαὐτοῦ of himἅψωνται· they might touch;καὶ andὅσοι as many asἂν likelyἥψαντο touchedαὐτοῦ of himἐσώζοντο. were being saved.
