Luke 18:1-43

18  Ἔλεγεν He was saying δὲ butπαραβολὴν parableαὐτοῖς to themπρὸς towardτὸ theδεῖν to be necessaryπάντοτε alwaysπροσεύχεσθαι to be prayingαὐτοὺς themκαὶ andμὴ notἐνκακεῖν, to go bad in (something), 2  λέγων saying Κριτής Judgeτις someἦν wasἔν inτινι someπόλει cityτὸν theθεὸν Godμὴ notφοβούμενος fearingκαὶ andἄνθρωπον manμὴ notἐντρεπόμενος. respecting. 3  χήρα Widow δὲ butἦν wasἐν inτῇ theπόλει cityἐκείνῃ thatκαὶ andἤρχετο she was comingπρὸς towardαὐτὸν himλέγουσα saying᾿Εκδίκησόν Exact vengeance forμε meἀπὸ fromτοῦ theἀντιδίκου adversary [at law]μου. of me. 4  καὶ And οὐκ notἤθελεν he was willingἐπὶ uponχρόνον, time,μετὰ afterταῦτα these (things)δὲ butεἶπεν he saidἐν inἑαυτῷ himselfΕἰ Ifκαὶ alsoτὸν theθεὸν Godοὐ notφοβοῦμαι I am fearingοὐδὲ neitherἄνθρωπον manἐντρέπομαι, I am respecting, 5  διά through γε in factτὸ theπαρέχειν to be furnishingμοι to meκόπον toilτὴν theχήραν widowταύτην thisἐκδικήσω I shall exact vengeance forαὐτήν, her,ἵνα in order thatμὴ notεἰς intoτέλος endἐρχομένη comingὑπωπιάζῃ she may hit under (eye)με. me. 6  Εἶπεν Said δὲ buttheκύριος Lord᾿Ακούσατε Hear YOUτί whattheκριτὴς judgeτῆς of theἀδικίας unrighteousnessλέγει· is saying; 7  the δὲ butθεὸς Godοὐ notμὴ notποιήσῃ should doτὴν theἐκδίκησιν vengeanceτῶν of theἐκλεκτῶν chosen (ones)αὐτοῦ of himτῶν of the (ones)βοώντων crying aloudαὐτῷ to himἡμέρας of dayκαὶ andνυκτός, of night,καὶ andμακροθυμεῖ he is long of spiritἐπ’ uponαὐτοῖς; them? 8  λέγω I am saying ὑμῖν to YOUὅτι thatποιήσει he will doτὴν theἐκδίκησιν vengeanceαὐτῶν of themἐν inτάχει. quickness.πλὴν Besidestheυἱὸς Sonτοῦ of theἀνθρώπου manἐλθὼν having comeἆρα reallyεὑρήσει will he findτὴν theπίστιν faithἐπὶ uponτῆς theγῆς; earth? 9  Εἶπεν He said δὲ butκαὶ alsoπρός towardτινας someτοὺς the (ones)πεποιθότας having trustedἐφ’ uponἑαυτοῖς themselvesὅτι thatεἰσὶν they areδίκαιοι righteousκαὶ andἐξουθενοῦντας considering as nothingτοὺς theλοιποὺς leftover (ones)τὴν theπαραβολὴν parableταύτην. this. 10  Ἄνθρωποι Men δύο twoἀνέβησαν went upεἰς intoτὸ theἱερὸν templeπροσεύξασθαι, to pray,εἷς oneΦαρισαῖος Phariseeκαὶ andtheἕτερος different (one)τελώνης. tax collector. 11  The Φαρισαῖος Phariseeσταθεὶς having stoodταῦτα these (things)πρὸς towardἑαυτὸν himselfπροσηύχετο was prayingTheθεός, God,εὐχαριστῶ I am thankingσοι to youὅτι becauseοὐκ notεἰμὶ I amὥσπερ as-evenοἱ theλοιποὶ leftover (ones)τῶν of theἀνθρώπων, men,ἅρπαγες, snatchers,ἄδικοι, unrighteous,μοιχοί, adulterers,orκαὶ alsoὡς asοὗτος thistheτελώνης· tax collector; 12  νηστεύω I am fasting δὶς twiceτοῦ of theσαββάτου, sabbath,ἀποδεκατεύω I am tithing fromπάντα all (things)ὅσα as many asκτῶμαι. I am acquiring. 13  The δὲ butτελώνης tax collectorμακρόθεν from long way offἑστὼς having stoodοὐκ notἤθελεν was willingοὐδὲ not-butτοὺς theὀφθαλμοὺς eyesἐπᾶραι to lift upεἰς intoτὸν theοὐρανόν, heaven,ἀλλ’ butἔτυπτε he was smitingτὸ theστῆθος breastἑαυτοῦ of himselfλέγων sayingTheθεός, God,ἱλάσθητί be propitiousμοι to meτῷ theἁμαρτωλῷ. sinner. 14  λέγω I am saying ὑμῖν, to YOU,κατέβη went downοὗτος this (one)δεδικαιωμένος having been justifiedεἰς intoτὸν theοἶκον homeαὐτοῦ of himπαρ’ besideἐκεῖνον· that (one);ὅτι becauseπᾶς everyonetheὑψῶν exaltingἑαυτὸν himselfταπεινωθήσεται, will be humbled,the (one)δὲ butταπεινῶν humblingἑαυτὸν himselfὑψωθήσεται. will be exalted. 15  Προσέφερον Were bearing toward δὲ butαὐτῷ to himκαὶ alsoτὰ theβρέφη infantsἵνα in order thatαὐτῶν of themἅπτηται· he may touch;ἰδόντες having seenδὲ butοἱ theμαθηταὶ disciplesἐπετίμων were giving reprimandsαὐτοῖς. to them. 16  The δὲ butἸησοῦς Jesusπροσεκαλέσατο called toward himαὐτὰ themλέγων sayingἌφετε Let go off YOUτὰ theπαιδία little childrenἔρχεσθαι to be comingπρός towardμε meκαὶ andμὴ notκωλύετε be YOU preventingαὐτά, them,τῶν of theγὰρ forτοιούτων of such (ones)ἐστὶν istheβασιλεία kingdomτοῦ of theθεοῦ. God. 17  ἀμὴν Amen λέγω I am sayingὑμῖν, to YOU,ὃς whoἂν likelyμὴ notδέξηται might receiveτὴν theβασιλείαν kingdomτοῦ of theθεοῦ Godὡς asπαιδίον, little boy,οὐ notμὴ notεἰσέλθῃ might enterεἰς intoαὐτήν. it. 18  Καὶ And ἐπηρώτησέν inquired uponτις someαὐτὸν himἄρχων rulerλέγων sayingΔιδάσκαλε Teacherἀγαθέ, good,τί whatποιήσας having doneζωὴν lifeαἰώνιον everlastingκληρονομήσω; shall I inherit? 19  εἶπεν Said δὲ butαὐτῷ to himtheἸησοῦς JesusΤί Whyμε meλέγεις you are sayingἀγαθόν; good?οὐδεὶς No oneἀγαθὸς goodεἰ ifμὴ notεἷς onetheθεός. God. 20  τὰς The ἐντολὰς commandmentsοἶδας you have knownΜὴ Notμοιχεύσῃς, you should commit adultery,Μὴ Notφονεύσῃς, you should murder,Μὴ Notκλέψῃς, you should steal,Μὴ Notψευδομαρτυρήσῃς, you should bear false witness,Τίμα Be honoringτὸν theπατέρα fatherσου of youκαὶ andτὴν theμητέρα. mother. 21  The (one) δὲ butεἶπεν saidΤαῦτα These (things)πάντα allἐφύλαξα I guardedἐκ out ofνεότητος. youth. 22  ἀκούσας Having heard δὲ buttheἸησοῦς Jesusεἶπεν saidαὐτῷ to himἜτι Yetἕν one (thing)σοι to youλείπει· is wanting;πάντα all (things)ὅσα as many asἔχεις you are havingπώλησον sellκαὶ andδιάδος distributeπτωχοῖς, to poor (ones),καὶ andἕξεις you will haveθησαυρὸν treasureἐν inτοῖς theοὐρανοῖς, heavens,καὶ andδεῦρο hitherἀκολούθει be followerμοι. to me. 23  The (one) δὲ butἀκούσας having heardταῦτα these (things)περίλυπος grieved aboutἐγενήθη, became,ἦν he wasγὰρ forπλούσιος richσφόδρα. very much. 24  Ἰδὼν Having seen δὲ butαὐτὸν himtheἸησοῦς Jesusεἶπεν saidΠῶς Howδυσκόλως with difficultyοἱ the (ones)τὰ theχρήματα moneyἔχοντες havingεἰς intoτὴν theβασιλείαν kingdomτοῦ of theθεοῦ Godεἰσπορεύονται· are going their way in; 25  εὐκοπώτερον easier γάρ forἐστιν it isκάμηλον camelδιὰ throughτρήματος apertureβελόνης of sewing needleεἰσελθεῖν to enterthanπλούσιον rich [man]εἰς intoτὴν theβασιλείαν kingdomτοῦ of theθεοῦ Godεἰσελθεῖν. to enter. 26  εἶπαν Said δὲ butοἱ the (ones)ἀκούσαντες having heardΚαὶ Andτίς whoδύναται is ableσωθῆναι; to be saved? 27  The (one) δὲ butεἶπεν saidΤὰ The (things)ἀδύνατα impossibleπαρὰ besideἀνθρώποις menδυνατὰ possibleπαρὰ besideτῷ theθεῷ Godἐστίν. is. 28  Εἶπεν Said δὲ buttheΠέτρος PeterἸδοὺ Look!ἡμεῖς Weἀφέντες having let go offτὰ theἴδια own (things)ἠκολουθήσαμέν we followedσοι. to you. 29  The (one) δὲ butεἶπεν saidαὐτοῖς to them᾿Αμὴν Amenλέγω I am sayingὑμῖν to YOUὅτι thatοὐδεὶς no oneἔστιν isὃς whoἀφῆκεν let go offοἰκίαν houseorγυναῖκα womanorἀδελφοὺς brothersorγονεῖς parentsorτέκνα childrenεἵνεκεν for the sakeτῆς of theβασιλείας kingdomτοῦ of theθεοῦ, God, 30  ὃς who οὐχὶ notμὴ notλάβῃ might receiveπολλαπλασίονα many times more (things)ἐν inτῷ theκαιρῷ appointed timeτούτῳ thisκαὶ andἐν inτῷ theαἰῶνι ageτῷ the (one)ἐρχομένῳ comingζωὴν lifeαἰώνιον. everlasting. 31  Παραλαβὼν Having taken beside δὲ butτοὺς theδώδεκα twelveεἶπεν he saidπρὸς towardαὐτούς themἸδοὺ Look!ἀναβαίνομεν We are going upεἰς intoἸερουσαλήμ, Jerusalem,καὶ andτελεσθήσεται will be completedπάντα allτὰ the (things)γεγραμμένα having been writtenδιὰ throughτῶν theπροφητῶν prophetsτῷ to theυἱῷ Sonτοῦ of theἀνθρώπου· man; 32  παραδοθήσεται he will be given beside γὰρ forτοῖς to theἔθνεσιν nationsκαὶ andἐμπαιχθήσεται he will be made fun ofκαὶ andὑβρισθήσεται he will be treated insolentlyκαὶ andἐμπτυσθήσεται, he will be spit in, 33  καὶ and μαστιγώσαντες having scourgedἀποκτενοῦσιν they will killαὐτόν, him,καὶ andτῇ to theἡμέρᾳ dayτῇ theτρίτῃ thirdἀναστήσεται. he will stand up. 34  Καὶ And αὐτοὶ theyοὐδὲν nothingτούτων of these (things)συνῆκαν, comprehended,καὶ andἦν wasτὸ theῥῆμα sayingτοῦτο thisκεκρυμμένον having been hiddenἀπ’ fromαὐτῶν, them,καὶ andοὐκ notἐγίνωσκον they were knowingτὰ the (things)λεγόμενα. being said. 35  ᾿Εγένετο It occurred δὲ butἐν inτῷ theἐγγίζειν to be getting nearαὐτὸν himεἰς intoἸερειχὼ Jerichoτυφλός blind [man]τις someἐκάθητο was sittingπαρὰ besideτὴν theὁδὸν wayἐπαιτῶν. begging. 36  ἀκούσας Having heard δὲ butὄχλου of crowdδιαπορευομένου traveling throughἐπυνθάνετο he was inquiringτί whatεἴη might beτοῦτο· this; 37  ἀπήγγειλαν they reported back δὲ butαὐτῷ to himὅτι thatἸησοῦς JesustheΝαζωραῖος Nazareneπαρέρχεται. is passing by. 38  καὶ And ἐβόησεν he cried aloudλέγων sayingἸησοῦ Jesusυἱὲ SonΔαυείδ, of David,ἐλέησόν have mercy onμε. me. 39  καὶ And οἱ the (ones)προάγοντες going beforeἐπετίμων were giving reprimandsαὐτῷ to himἵνα in order thatσιγήσῃ· he should be silent;αὐτὸς heδὲ butπολλῷ to muchμᾶλλον ratherἔκραζεν was shoutingΥἱὲ SonΔαυείδ, of David,ἐλέησόν have mercy onμε. me. 40  σταθεὶς Having stood still δὲ butἸησοῦς Jesusἐκέλευσεν commandedαὐτὸν himἀχθῆναι to be ledπρὸς towardαὐτόν. him.ἐγγίσαντος Having drawn nearδὲ butαὐτοῦ of himἐπηρώτησεν he inquired uponαὐτόν him 41  Τί What σοι to youθέλεις are you willingποιήσω; to do?The (one)δὲ butεἶπεν saidΚύριε, Lord,ἵνα in order thatἀναβλέψω. I might see again. 42  καὶ And theἸησοῦς Jesusεἶπεν saidαὐτῷ to him᾿Ανάβλεψον· See again;theπίστις faithσου of youσέσωκέν has savedσε. you. 43  καὶ And παραχρῆμα instantlyἀνέβλεψεν, he got sight again,καὶ andἠκολούθει he was followingαὐτῷ to himδοξάζων glorifyingτὸν theθεόν. God.Καὶ Andπᾶς alltheλαὸς peopleἰδὼν having seenἔδωκεν gaveαἶνον praiseτῷ to theθεῷ. God.
