10  Μετὰ After δὲ butταῦτα these (things)ἀνέδειξεν designatedtheκύριος Lordἑτέρους different (ones)ἑβδομήκοντα seventy-δύο twoκαὶ andἀπέστειλεν sent offαὐτοὺς themἀνὰ upδύο twoδύο twoπρὸ beforeπροσώπου of faceαὐτοῦ of himεἰς intoπᾶσαν everyπόλιν cityκαὶ andτόπον placeοὗ whereἤμελλεν he was aboutαὐτὸς heἔρχεσθαι. to be coming. 2  ἔλεγεν He was saying δὲ butπρὸς towardαὐτούς themTheμὲν indeedθερισμὸς harvestπολύς, much,οἱ theδὲ butἐργάται workersὀλίγοι· few;δεήθητε beg YOUοὖν thereforeτοῦ of theκυρίου Lordτοῦ of theθερισμοῦ harvestὅπως so thatἐργάτας workersἐκβάλῃ he should thrust outεἰς intoτὸν theθερισμὸν harvestαὐτοῦ. of him. 3  ὑπάγετε· Be YOU going under; ἰδοὺ look!ἀποστέλλω I am sending offὑμᾶς YOUὡς asἄρνας lambsἐν inμέσῳ midstλύκων. of wolves. 4  μὴ Not βαστάζετε be YOU carryingβαλλάντιον, purse,μὴ norπήραν, pouch,μὴ norὑποδήματα, sandals,καὶ andμηδένα no oneκατὰ downτὴν theὁδὸν wayἀσπάσησθε. God. 12  λέγω I am saying ὑμῖν to YOUὅτι thatΣοδόμοις to Sodomἐν inτῇ theἡμέρᾳ dayἐκείνῃ thatἀνεκτότερον more endurableἔσται it will bethanτῇ to theπόλει cityἐκείνῃ. that. 13  Οὐαί Woe σοι, to you,Χοραζείν· Chorazin;οὐαί woeσοι, to you,Βηθσαιδά· Bethsaida;ὅτι becauseεἰ ifἐν inΤύρῳ Tyreκαὶ andΣιδῶνι Sidonἐγενήθησαν took placeαἱ theδυνάμεις powerful worksαἱ the (ones)γενόμεναι having taken placeἐν inὑμῖν, YOU,πάλαι long agoἂν likelyἐν inσάκκῳ sackclothκαὶ andσποδῷ ashesκαθήμενοι sittingμετενόησαν. they became repentant. 14  πλὴν Besides Τύρῳ to Tyreκαὶ andΣιδῶνι to Sidonἀνεκτότερον more endurableἔσται it will beἐν inτῇ theκρίσει judgmentthanὑμῖν. to YOU. 15  Καὶ And σύ, you,Καφαρναούμ, Capernaum,μὴ notἕως untilοὐρανοῦ heavenὑψωθήσῃ; will you be exalted?ἕως Untilτοῦ theᾅδου Hadesκαταβήσῃ. you will come down. 16  The (one) ἀκούων hearingὑμῶν of YOUἐμοῦ of meἀκούει, he is hearing,καὶ andthe (one)ἀθετῶν disregardingὑμᾶς YOUἐμὲ meἀθετεῖ· he is disregarding;the (one)δὲ butἐμὲ meἀθετῶν disregardingἀθετεῖ is disregardingτὸν the (one)ἀποστείλαντά having sent offμε. me. 17  Ὑπέστρεψαν Returned δὲ butοἱ theἑβδομήκοντα seventy-δύο twoμετὰ withχαρᾶς joyλέγοντες sayingΚύριε, Lord,καὶ alsoτὰ theδαιμόνια demonsὑποτάσσεται are subjecting themselvesἡμῖν to usἐν inτῷ theὀνόματί nameσου. of you. 18  εἶπεν He said δὲ butαὐτοῖς to them᾿Εθεώρουν I was beholdingτὸν theΣατανᾶν Satanὡς asἀστραπὴν lightningἐκ out ofτοῦ theοὐρανοῦ heavenπεσόντα. having fallen. 19  ἰδοὺ Look! δέδωκα I have givenὑμῖν to YOUτὴν theἐξουσίαν authorityτοῦ of theπατεῖν to be tramplingἐπάνω on topὄφεων of serpentsκαὶ andσκορπίων, scorpions,καὶ andἐπὶ uponπᾶσαν allτὴν theδύναμιν powerτοῦ of theἐχθροῦ, enemy,καὶ andοὐδὲν nothingὑμᾶς YOUοὐ notμὴ notἀδικήσει. will hurt. 20  πλὴν Besides ἐν inτούτῳ this (thing)μὴ notχαίρετε be YOU rejoicingὅτι thatτὰ theπνεύματα spiritsὑμῖν to YOUὑποτάσσεται, are subjecting themselves,χαίρετε be YOU rejoicingδὲ butὅτι thatτὰ theὀνόματα namesὑμῶν of YOUἐνγέγραπται have been inscribedἐν inτοῖς theοὐρανοῖς. heavens. 21  ᾿Εν In αὐτῇ veryτῇ theὥρᾳ hourἠγαλλιάσατο he became exultantτῷ to theπνεύματι spiritτῷ theἁγίῳ holyκαὶ andεἶπεν said᾿Εξομολογοῦμαί I am confessing outσοι, to you,πάτερ Fatherκύριε Lordτοῦ of theοὐρανοῦ heavenκαὶ andτῆς of theγῆς, earth,ὅτι becauseἀπέκρυψας you carefully hidταῦτα these (things)ἀπὸ fromσοφῶν wise (ones)καὶ andσυνετῶν, comprehending (ones),καὶ andἀπεκάλυψας you revealedαὐτὰ themνηπίοις· to babes;ναί, yes,theπατήρ, Father,ὅτι becauseοὕτως thusεὐδοκία well-thinkingἐγένετο it came to beἔμπροσθέν in frontσου. of you. 22  Πάντα All (things) μοι to meπαρεδόθη were given overὑπὸ byτοῦ theπατρός Fatherμου, of me,καὶ andοὐδεὶς no oneγινώσκει is knowingτίς whoἐστιν istheυἱὸς Sonεἰ ifμὴ nottheπατήρ, Father,καὶ andτίς whoἐστιν istheπατὴρ Fatherεἰ ifμὴ nottheυἱὸς Sonκαὶ andto whomἂν likelyβούληται may be wishingtheυἱὸς Sonἀποκαλύψαι. to reveal. 23  Καὶ And στραφεὶς having turnedπρὸς towardτοὺς theμαθητὰς disciplesκατ’ according toἰδίαν private [spot]εἶπεν he saidΜακάριοι Happyοἱ theὀφθαλμοὶ eyesοἱ the (ones)βλέποντες looking atwhat (things)βλέπετε. YOU are looking at. 24  λέγω I am saying γὰρ forὑμῖν to YOUὅτι thatπολλοὶ manyπροφῆται prophetsκαὶ andβασιλεῖς kingsἠθέλησαν desiredἰδεῖν to seewhat (things)ὑμεῖς YOUβλέπετε are looking atκαὶ andοὐκ notεἶδαν, they saw,καὶ andἀκοῦσαι to hearwhat (things)ἀκούετε YOU are hearingκαὶ andοὐκ notἤκουσαν. they heard. 25  Καὶ And ἰδοὺ look!νομικός one versed in the lawτις someἀνέστη stood upἐκπειράζων testing outαὐτὸν himλέγων sayingΔιδάσκαλε, Teacher,τί whatποιήσας having doneζωὴν lifeαἰώνιον everlastingκληρονομήσω; shall I inherit? 26  The (one) δὲ butεἶπεν saidπρὸς towardαὐτόν him᾿Εν Inτῷ theνόμῳ lawτί whatγέγραπται; has been written?πῶς Howἀναγινώσκεις; are you reading? 27  The (one) δὲ butἀποκριθεὶς having answeredεἶπεν said᾿Αγαπήσεις You shall loveΚύριον Lordτὸν theθεόν Godσου of youἐξ out ofὅλης wholeκαρδίας heartσου of youκαὶ andἐν inὅλῃ wholeτῇ theψυχῇ soulσου of youκαὶ andἐν inὅλῃ wholeτῇ theἰσχύι strengthσου of youκαὶ andἐν inὅλῃ wholeτῇ theδιανοίᾳ mindσου, of you,καὶ andτὸν theπλησίον neighborσου of youὡς asσεαυτόν. yourself. 28  εἶπεν He said δὲ butαὐτῷ to himὈρθῶς Correctlyἀπεκρίθης· you answered;τοῦτο thisποίει be doingκαὶ andζήσῃ. you will live. 29  The (one) δὲ butθέλων willingδικαιῶσαι to justifyἑαυτὸν himselfεἶπεν saidπρὸς towardτὸν theἸησοῦν JesusΚαὶ Andτίς whoἐστίν isμου of meπλησίον; neighbor? 30  ὑπολαβὼν Having taken under theἸησοῦς Jesusεἶπεν saidἌνθρωπός Manτις someκατέβαινεν was going downἀπὸ fromἸερουσαλὴμ Jerusalemεἰς intoἸερειχὼ Jerichoκαὶ andλῃσταῖς to robbersπεριέπεσεν, fell about,οἳ whoκαὶ alsoἐκδύσαντες having strippedαὐτὸν himκαὶ andπληγὰς blowsἐπιθέντες having put uponἀπῆλθον they went offἀφέντες having let go offἡμιθανῆ. one half-dead. 31  κατὰ According to συγκυρίαν coincidenceδὲ butἱερεύς priestτις someκατέβαινεν was going downἐν inτῇ theὁδῷ wayἐκείνῃ, that,καὶ andἰδὼν having seenαὐτὸν himἀντιπαρῆλθεν· went along by opposite side; 32  ὁμοίως likewise δὲ butκαὶ alsoΛευείτης Leviteκατὰ down onτὸν theτόπον placeἐλθὼν having comeκαὶ andἰδὼν having seenἀντιπαρῆλθεν. went along by opposite side. 33  Σαμαρείτης Samaritan δέ butτις someὁδεύων making his wayἦλθεν cameκατ’ down onαὐτὸν himκαὶ andἰδὼν having seenἐσπλαγχνίσθη, was moved with pity, 34  καὶ and προσελθὼν having come towardκατέδησεν he bound downτὰ theτραύματα woundsαὐτοῦ of himἐπιχέων pouring uponἔλαιον oilκαὶ andοἶνον, wine,ἐπιβιβάσας having mountedδὲ butαὐτὸν himἐπὶ uponτὸ theἴδιον ownκτῆνος beast of burdenἤγαγεν he ledαὐτὸν himεἰς intoπανδοχεῖον innκαὶ andἐπεμελήθη he took care ofαὐτοῦ. him. 35  καὶ And ἐπὶ uponτὴν theαὔριον morrowἐκβαλὼν having thrust outδύο twoδηνάρια denariiἔδωκεν he gaveτῷ to theπανδοχεῖ innkeeperκαὶ andεἶπεν said᾿Επιμελήθητι Take care ofαὐτοῦ, him,καὶ andὅτι thatἂν likelyπροσδαπανήσῃς you might spend towardἐγὼ Iἐν inτῷ theἐπανέρχεσθαί to be coming back uponμε meἀποδώσω shall give backσοι. to you. 36  τίς Which one τούτων of theseτῶν theτριῶν threeπλησίον neighborδοκεῖ it seemsσοι to youγεγονέναι to have becomeτοῦ of the (one)ἐμπεσόντος having fallenεἰς intoτοὺς theλῃστάς; robbers? 37  The (one) δὲ butεἶπεν saidThe (one)ποιήσας having doneτὸ theἔλεος mercyμετ’ withαὐτοῦ. him.εἶπεν Saidδὲ butαὐτῷ to himtheἸησοῦς JesusΠορεύου Be going your wayκαὶ andσὺ youποίει be doingὁμοίως. likewise. 38  ᾿Εν In δὲ butτῷ theπορεύεσθαι to be going their wayαὐτοὺς themαὐτὸς heεἰσῆλθεν enteredεἰς intoκώμην villageτινά· some;γυνὴ womanδέ butτις someὀνόματι to nameΜάρθα Marthaὑπεδέξατο received underαὐτὸν himεἰς intoτὴν theοἰκίαν. house. 39  καὶ And τῇδε to the (one) butἦν wasἀδελφὴ sisterκαλουμένη being calledΜαριάμ, Mary,whoκαὶ alsoπαρακαθεσθεῖσα having sat alongsideπρὸς towardτοὺς theπόδας feetτοῦ of theκυρίου Lordἤκουεν was hearingτὸν theλόγον wordαὐτοῦ. of him. 40  The δὲ butΜάρθα Marthaπεριεσπᾶτο was being distractedπερὶ aboutπολλὴν muchδιακονίαν· serving;ἐπιστᾶσα having stood uponδὲ butεἶπεν saidΚύριε, Lord,οὐ notμέλει does it matterσοι to youὅτι thattheἀδελφή sisterμου of meμόνην aloneμε meκατέλειπεν was leaving downδιακονεῖν; to be serving?εἰπὸν Sayοὖν thereforeαὐτῇ to herἵνα in order thatμοι to meσυναντιλάβηται. she might give aid together. 41  ἀποκριθεὶς Having answered δὲ butεἶπεν saidαὐτῇ to hertheκύριος LordΜάρθα MarthaΜάρθα, Martha,μεριμνᾷς you are anxiousκαὶ andθορυβάζῃ you are being disturbedπερὶ aboutπολλά, many (things), 42  ὀλίγων of few (things) δέ butἐστιν isχρεία needorἑνός· of one;Μαριὰμ Maryγὰρ forτὴν theἀγαθὴν goodμερίδα partἐξελέξατο choseἥτις whichοὐκ notἀφαιρεθήσεται will be lifted up fromαὐτῆς. her.
