19  ᾿Εγένετο It occurred δὲ butἐν inτῷ theτὸν the᾿Απολλὼ Apollosεἶναι to beἐν inΚορίνθῳ CorinthΠαῦλον Paulδιελθόντα having gone throughτὰ theἀνωτερικὰ upperμέρη partsἐλθεῖν to comeεἰς intoἜφεσον Ephesusκαὶ andεὑρεῖν to findτινὰς someμαθητάς, disciples, 2  εἶπέν he said τε andπρὸς towardαὐτούς themΕἰ Ifπνεῦμα spiritἅγιον holyἐλάβετε YOU receivedπιστεύσαντες; having believed?οἱ The (ones)δὲ butπρὸς towardαὐτόν him᾿Αλλ’ Butοὐδ’ notεἰ ifπνεῦμα spiritἅγιον holyἔστιν isἠκούσαμεν. we heard. 3  εἶπέν He said τε andΕἰς Intoτί whatοὖν thereforeἐβαπτίσθητε; were YOU baptized?οἱ The (ones)δὲ butεἶπαν saidΕἰς Intoτὸ theἸωάνου of Johnβάπτισμα. baptism. 4  εἶπεν Said δὲ butΠαῦλος PaulἸωάνης Johnἐβάπτισεν baptizedβάπτισμα baptismμετανοίας, of repentance,τῷ to theλαῷ peopleλέγων sayingεἰς intoτὸν the (one)ἐρχόμενον comingμετ’ afterαὐτὸν himἵνα in order thatπιστεύσωσιν, they should believe,τοῦτ’ thisἔστιν isεἰς intoτὸν theἸησοῦν. Jesus. 18  πολλοί Many τε andτῶν of the (ones)πεπιστευκότων having believedἤρχοντο were comingἐξομολογούμενοι confessing outκαὶ andἀναγγέλλοντες announcing upτὰς theπράξεις actsαὐτῶν. of them. 19  ἱκανοὶ Sufficient δὲ but ofτῶν the (ones)τὰ theπερίεργα curiositiesπραξάντων having practicedσυνενέγκαντες having brought togetherτὰς theβίβλους booksκατέκαιον they were burning downἐνώπιον in sightπάντων· of all;καὶ andσυνεψήφισαν computedτὰς theτιμὰς pricesαὐτῶν of themκαὶ andεὗρον they foundἀργυρίου of silverμυριάδας myriadsπέντε. five. 20  Οὕτως Thus κατὰ downκράτος mightτοῦ of theκυρίου Lordtheλόγος wordηὔξανεν was growingκαὶ andἴσχυεν. it was exerting strength. 21  Ὡς As δὲ butἐπληρώθη was fulfilledταῦτα, these (things),ἔθετο puttheΠαῦλος Paulἐν inτῷ theπνεύματι spiritδιελθὼν having gone throughτὴν theΜακεδονίαν Macedoniaκαὶ and᾿Αχαίαν Achaiaπορεύεσθαι to be goingεἰς intoἸεροσόλυμα, Jerusalem,εἰπὼν having saidὅτι thatΜετὰ Afterτὸ theγενέσθαι to come to beμε meἐκεῖ thereδεῖ it is necessaryμε meκαὶ alsoῬώμην Romeἰδεῖν. to see. 22  ἀποστείλας Having sent off δὲ butεἰς intoτὴν theΜακεδονίαν Macedoniaδύο twoτῶν of the (ones)διακονούντων servingαὐτῷ, to him,Τιμόθεον Timothyκαὶ andἜραστον, Erastus,αὐτὸς heἐπέσχεν delayedχρόνον timeεἰς intoτὴν the᾿Ασίαν. Asia. 23  ᾿Εγένετο It occurred δὲ butκατὰ downτὸν theκαιρὸν appointed timeἐκεῖνον thatτάραχος agitationοὐκ notὀλίγος littleπερὶ aboutτῆς theὁδοῦ. way. 24  Δημήτριος Demetrius γάρ forτις someὀνόματι, to name,ἀργυροκόπος, silversmith,ποιῶν makingναοὺς divine habitationsἀργυροῦς of silver᾿Αρτέμιδος of Artemisπαρείχετο was furnishingτοῖς to theτεχνίταις artisansοὐκ notὀλίγην littleἐργασίαν, working profit, 25  οὓς whom συναθροίσας having crowed togetherκαὶ alsoτοὺς theπερὶ aboutτὰ theτοιαῦτα such thingsἐργάτας workersεἶπεν he saidἌνδρες, Male persons,ἐπίστασθε YOU are well knowingὅτι thatἐκ out ofταύτης thisτῆς theἐργασίας workingtheεὐπορία prosperityἡμῖν to usἐστίν, is, 26  καὶ and θεωρεῖτε YOU are beholdingκαὶ andἀκούετε YOU are hearingὅτι thatοὐ notμόνον only᾿Εφέσου of Ephesusἀλλὰ butσχεδὸν nearlyπάσης of allτῆς the᾿Ασίας AsiatheΠαῦλος Paulοὗτος thisπείσας having persuadedμετέστησεν made to change standἱκανὸν sufficientὄχλον, crowd,λέγων sayingὅτι thatοὐκ notεἰσὶν areθεοὶ godsοἱ the (ones)διὰ throughχειρῶν handsγινόμενοι. coming to be. 27  οὐ Not μόνον onlyδὲ butτοῦτο thisκινδυνεύει is in dangerἡμῖν to usτὸ theμέρος partεἰς intoἀπελεγμὸν disreputeἐλθεῖν, to come,ἀλλὰ butκαὶ alsoτὸ theτῆς of theμεγάλης greatθεᾶς goddess᾿Αρτέμιδος Artemisἱερὸν templeεἰς intoοὐθὲν nothingλογισθῆναι, to be rated,μέλλειν to be aboutτε andκαὶ alsoκαθαιρεῖσθαι to be taken downτῆς of theμεγαλειότητος magnificenceαὐτῆς, of her,ἣν whomὅλη wholethe᾿Ασία Asiaκαὶ andtheοἰκουμένη being inhabited [earth]σέβεται. is venerating. 28  ἀκούσαντες Having heard δὲ butκαὶ andγενόμενοι having becomeπλήρεις fullθυμοῦ of angerἔκραζον they were crying outλέγοντες sayingΜεγάλη GreattheἌρτεμις Artemis᾿Εφεσίων. of Ephesians. 29  καὶ And ἐπλήσθη became filledtheπόλις cityτῆς of theσυγχύσεως, confusion,ὥρμησάν they rushedτε andὁμοθυμαδὸν like-mindedlyεἰς intoτὸ theθέατρον theaterσυναρπάσαντες having snatched up togetherΓαῖον Gaiusκαὶ and᾿Αρίσταρχον AristarchusΜακεδόνας, Macedonians,συνεκδήμους travelers togetherΠαύλου. of Paul. 30  Παύλου Of Paul δὲ butβουλομένου wishingεἰσελθεῖν to enterεἰς intoτὸν theδῆμον publicοὐκ notεἴων were permittingαὐτὸν himοἱ theμαθηταί· disciples; 31  τινὲς some δὲ butκαὶ alsoτῶν of the᾿Ασιαρχῶν, Asiarchs,ὄντες beingαὐτῷ to himφίλοι, friends,πέμψαντες having sentπρὸς towardαὐτὸν himπαρεκάλουν they were entreatingμὴ notδοῦναι to giveἑαυτὸν himselfεἰς intoτὸ theθέατρον. theater. 32  ἄλλοι Others μὲν indeedοὖν thereforeἄλλο otherτι somethingἔκραζον, were crying out,ἦν wasγὰρ fortheἐκκλησία ecclesiaσυνκεχυμένη, having been confused,καὶ andοἱ theπλείους more (ones)οὐκ notᾔδεισαν had knownτίνος of whatἕνεκα on account ofσυνεληλύθεισαν. they had come together. 33  ἐκ Out of δὲ butτοῦ of theὄχλου crowdσυνεβίβασαν they together made go᾿Αλέξανδρον Alexanderπροβαλόντων having thrust forwardαὐτὸν himτῶν of theἸουδαίων, Jews,theδὲ but᾿Αλέξανδρος Alexanderκατασείσας having shaken downτὴν theχεῖρα handἤθελεν he was willingἀπολογεῖσθαι to be defending himselfτῷ to theδήμῳ. public. 34  ἐπιγνόντες Having recognized δὲ butὅτι thatἸουδαῖός Jewἐστιν he isφωνὴ voiceἐγένετο occurredμία oneἐκ out ofπάντων allὡσεὶ as ifἐπὶ uponὥρας hoursδύο twoκραζόντων crying outΜεγάλη GreattheἌρτεμις Artemis᾿Εφεσίων. of Ephesians. 35  Καταστείλας Having sent down δὲ butτὸν theὄχλον crowdtheγραμματεύς scribeφησιν is sayingἌνδρες Male persons᾿Εφέσιοι, Ephesians,τίς whoγάρ forἐστιν isἀνθρώπων of menὃς whoοὐ notγινώσκει is knowingτὴν the᾿Εφεσίων of Ephesiansπόλιν cityνεωκόρον temple keeperοὖσαν beingτῆς of theμεγάλης great᾿Αρτέμιδος Artemisκαὶ andτοῦ of the (one)διοπετοῦς; fallen from Zeus? 36  ἀναντιρήτων Uncontradictable οὖν thereforeὄντων beingτούτων of these (things)δέον bindingἐστὶν it isὑμᾶς YOUκατεσταλμένους having been sent downὑπάρχειν to beκαὶ andμηδὲν nothingπροπετὲς rashπράσσειν. to be performing. 37  ἠγάγετε YOU led γὰρ forτοὺς theἄνδρας male personsτούτους these (ones)οὔτε neitherἱεροσύλους temple plunderersοὔτε norβλασφημοῦντας blasphemingτὴν theθεὸν goddessἡμῶν. of us. 38  εἰ If μὲν indeedοὖν thereforeΔημήτριος Demetriusκαὶ andοἱ the (ones)σὺν together withαὐτῷ himτεχνῖται artisansἔχουσιν are havingπρός towardτινα anyoneλόγον, word,ἀγοραῖοι forum [days]ἄγονται are being ledκαὶ andἀνθύπατοί proconsulsεἰσιν, are,ἐγκαλείτωσαν let them bring charges againstἀλλήλοις. one another. 39  εἰ If δέ butτι anythingπεραιτέρω more beyondἐπιζητεῖτε, YOU are seeking upon,ἐν inτῇ theἐννόμῳ lawfulἐκκλησίᾳ ecclesiaἐπιλυθήσεται. it will be loosened upon. 40  καὶ And γὰρ forκινδυνεύομεν we are in dangerἐγκαλεῖσθαι to be being charged withστάσεως of standingπερὶ aboutτῆς the (one)σήμερον todayμηδενὸς of not oneαἰτίου causeὑπάρχοντος, existing,περὶ aboutοὗ whichοὐ notδυνησόμεθα we will be ableἀποδοῦναι to give offλόγον wordπερὶ aboutτῆς theσυστροφῆς turning togetherταύτης. this. 41  καὶ And ταῦτα these (things)εἰπὼν having saidἀπέλυσεν he loosed offτὴν theἐκκλησίαν. ecclesia.
