1 Thessalonians 2:1-20

2  Αὐτοὶ Very (ones) γὰρ forοἴδατε, YOU have known,ἀδελφοί, brothers,τὴν theεἴσοδον way intoἡμῶν of usτὴν the (one)πρὸς towardὑμᾶς YOUὅτι thatοὐ notκενὴ emptyγέγονεν, it has come to be, 2  ἀλλὰ but προπαθόντες having suffered beforeκαὶ andὑβρισθέντες having been insolently treatedκαθὼς according asοἴδατε YOU have knownἐν inΦιλίπποις Philippiἐπαρρησιασάμεθα we were made outspokenἐν inτῷ theθεῷ Godἡμῶν of usλαλῆσαι to speakπρὸς towardὑμᾶς YOUτὸ theεὐαγγέλιον good newsτοῦ of theθεοῦ Godἐν inπολλῷ muchἀγῶνι. struggling. 3  The γὰρ forπαράκλησις encouragementἡμῶν of usοὐκ notἐκ out ofπλάνης errorοὐδὲ not-butἐξ out ofἀκαθαρσίας uncleannessοὐδὲ not-butἐν inδόλῳ, deceit, 4  ἀλλὰ but καθὼς according asδεδοκιμάσμεθα we have been provedὑπὸ byτοῦ theθεοῦ Godπιστευθῆναι to be entrusted withτὸ theεὐαγγέλιον good newsοὕτως thusλαλοῦμεν, we are speaking,οὐχ notὡς asἀνθρώποις to menἀρέσκοντες pleasingἀλλὰ butθεῷ to Godτῷ the (one)δοκιμάζοντι provingτὰς theκαρδίας heartsἡμῶν. of us. 5  οὔτε Nor γάρ forποτε sometimeἐν inλόγῳ wordκολακίας of flatteryἐγενήθημεν, we became,καθὼς according asοἴδατε, YOU have know,οὔτε norπροφάσει to pretenseπλεονεξίας, of covetousness,θεὸς Godμάρτυς, witness, 6  οὔτε nor ζητοῦντες seekingἐξ out ofἀνθρώπων menδόξαν, glory,οὔτε norἀφ’ fromὑμῶν YOUοὔτε norἀπ’ fromἄλλων, others,δυνάμενοι being ableἐν inβάρει heavy thingεἶναι to beὡς asΧριστοῦ of Christἀπόστολοι· apostles; 7  ἀλλὰ but ἐγενήθημεν we becameνήπιοι babesἐν inμέσῳ midstὑμῶν, of YOU,ὡς asἐὰν if everτροφὸς nurseθάλπῃ may be cherishingτὰ theἑαυτῆς of herselfτέκνα· children; 8  οὕτως thus ὀμειρόμενοι having affectionate desireὑμῶν of YOUηὐδοκοῦμεν we were thinking wellμεταδοῦναι to give shareὑμῖν to YOUοὐ notμόνον onlyτὸ theεὐαγγέλιον good newsτοῦ of theθεοῦ Godἀλλὰ butκαὶ alsoτὰς theἑαυτῶν of selvesψυχάς, souls,διότι through whichἀγαπητοὶ loved (ones)ἡμῖν to usἐγενήθητε. YOU became. 9  μνημονεύετε YOU are bearing in mind γάρ, for,ἀδελφοί, brothers,τὸν theκόπον laborἡμῶν of usκαὶ andτὸν theμόχθον· toil;νυκτὸς of nightκαὶ andἡμέρας of dayἐργαζόμενοι workingπρὸς towardτὸ theμὴ notἐπιβαρῆσαί to put weight uponτινα anyoneὑμῶν of YOUἐκηρύξαμεν we preachedεἰς intoὑμᾶς YOUτὸ theεὐαγγέλιον good newsτοῦ of theθεοῦ. God. 10  ὑμεῖς YOU μάρτυρες witnessesκαὶ andtheθεός, God,ὡς asὁσίως loyallyκαὶ andδικαίως righteouslyκαὶ andἀμέμπτως unblamablyὑμῖν to YOUτοῖς the (ones)πιστεύουσιν believingἐγενήθημεν, we became, 11  καθάπερ according to which (things) even οἴδατε YOU have knownὡς asἕνα oneἕκαστον eachὑμῶν of YOUὡς asπατὴρ fatherτέκνα childrenἑαυτοῦ of himselfπαρακαλοῦντες encouragingὑμᾶς YOUκαὶ andπαραμυθούμενοι consolingκαὶ andμαρτυρόμενοι, bearing witness, 12  εἰς into τὸ theπεριπατεῖν to be walking aboutὑμᾶς YOUἀξίως worthilyτοῦ of theθεοῦ Godτοῦ the (one)καλοῦντος callingὑμᾶς YOUεἰς intoτὴν theἑαυτοῦ of himselfβασιλείαν kingdomκαὶ andδόξαν. glory. 13  Καὶ And διὰ throughτοῦτο thisκαὶ alsoἡμεῖς weεὐχαριστοῦμεν are giving thanksτῷ to theθεῷ Godἀδιαλείπτως, incessantly,ὅτι becauseπαραλαβόντες having received alongsideλόγον wordἀκοῆς of hearingπαρ’ besideἡμῶν of usτοῦ of theθεοῦ Godἐδέξασθε YOU acceptedοὐ notλόγον wordἀνθρώπων of menἀλλὰ butκαθὼς according asἀληθῶς truthfullyἐστὶν it isλόγον wordθεοῦ, of God,ὃς whichκαὶ alsoἐνεργεῖται is working withinἐν inὑμῖν YOUτοῖς the (ones)πιστεύουσιν. believing. 14  ὑμεῖς YOU γὰρ forμιμηταὶ imitatorsἐγενήθητε, YOU became,ἀδελφοί, brothers,τῶν of theἐκκλησιῶν ecclesiasτοῦ of theθεοῦ Godτῶν the (ones)οὐσῶν beingἐν inτῇ theἸουδαίᾳ Judeaἐν inΧριστῷ ChristἸησοῦ, Jesus,ὅτι becauseτὰ theαὐτὰ very (things)ἐπάθετε YOU sufferedκαὶ alsoὑμεῖς YOUὑπὸ byτῶν theἰδίων ownσυμφυλετῶν fellow tribesmenκαθὼς according asκαὶ alsoαὐτοὶ theyὑπὸ byτῶν theἸουδαίων, Jews, 15  τῶν of the (ones) καὶ alsoτὸν theκύριον Lordἀποκτεινάντων having killedἸησοῦν Jesusκαὶ andτοὺς theπροφήτας prophetsκαὶ andἡμᾶς usἐκδιωξάντων, having persecuted out,καὶ andθεῷ to Godμὴ notἀρεσκόντων, pleasing,καὶ andπᾶσιν to allἀνθρώποις menἐναντίων, of (ones) contrary, 16  κωλυόντων hindering ἡμᾶς usτοῖς to theἔθνεσιν nationsλαλῆσαι to speakἵνα in order thatσωθῶσιν, they might be saved,εἰς intoτὸ theἀναπληρῶσαι to fill upαὐτῶν of themτὰς theἁμαρτίας sinsπάντοτε. always.ἔφθασεν Came aheadδὲ butἐπ’ uponαὐτοὺς themtheὀργὴ wrathεἰς intoτέλος. end. 17  Ἡμεῖς We δέ, but,ἀδελφοί, brothers,ἀπορφανισθέντες having been orphaned offἀφ’ fromὑμῶν YOUπρὸς towardκαιρὸν appointed timeὥρας, of hour,προσώπῳ to faceοὐ notκαρδίᾳ, to heart,περισσοτέρως more abundantlyἐσπουδάσαμεν we speeded upτὸ theπρόσωπον faceὑμῶν of YOUἰδεῖν to seeἐν inπολλῇ muchἐπιθυμίᾳ. desire. 18  διότι Through which ἠθελήσαμεν we willedἐλθεῖν to comeπρὸς towardὑμᾶς, YOU,ἐγὼ Iμὲν indeedΠαῦλος Paulκαὶ andἅπαξ onceκαὶ andδίς, twice,καὶ andἐνέκοψεν cut in onἡμᾶς ustheΣατανᾶς. Satan. 19  τίς What γὰρ forἡμῶν of usἐλπὶς hopeorχαρὰ joyorστέφανος crownκαυχήσεως— of boasting—orοὐχὶ notκαὶ alsoὑμεῖς— YOUἔμπροσθεν in frontτοῦ of theκυρίου Lordἡμῶν of usἸησοῦ Jesusἐν inτῇ theαὐτοῦ of himπαρουσίᾳ; presence? 20  ὑμεῖς YOU γάρ forἐστε YOU aretheδόξα gloryἡμῶν of usκαὶ andtheχαρά. joy.
