  • The Category 2 storm made landfall in southwestern Louisiana on October 9, 2020, causing additional damage to areas recently devastated by Hurricane Laura

  • The hurricane brought heavy rain and strong wind that caused significant flooding and widespread power outages

Effect on our brothers and sisters

  • 1,583 publishers were displaced or evacuated

Property damage

  • 216 homes and 16 Kingdom Halls sustained minor damage

  • 7 homes sustained major damage

  • 3 homes were destroyed

Relief efforts

  • Circuit overseers and local elders are assisting our brothers and sisters who are in need of food, water, shelter, and other humanitarian aid. These efforts are being supported by the Disaster Relief Committee previously appointed in response to Hurricane Laura. Our brothers continue to remain vigilant by observing all COVID-19 safety guidelines

Local elders have also intensified their shepherding efforts. One elder shared this observation: “It’s just incredible the strength that Jehovah has been giving these brothers and sisters. It is without question ‘power beyond what is normal.’”—2 Corinthians 4:7.

We thank Jehovah that he continues to be a “refuge and protection” for our dear brothers and sisters who have been affected by these recent storms.—Isaiah 4:6.
