SEPTEMBER 14, 2015
On September 4, 2015, the Sabail District Court—for the third time—granted the prosecutor’s request to extend the pretrial detention of two of Jehovah’s Witnesses, Irina Zakharchenko and Valida Jabrayilova. They are to remain in jail until December 17, 2015.
The ordeal for these women began with their arrest and pretrial detention on February 17, 2015, for alleged illegal distribution of religious literature. With their confinement now stretching to ten months, their family, friends, and the worldwide community of Jehovah’s Witnesses are deeply concerned for their welfare. The authorities should end this injustice and release them immediately.
