27  Πρωίας Of morningδὲ butγενομένης having occurredσυμβούλιον counsel togetherἔλαβον tookπάντες allοἱ theἀρχιερεῖς chief priestsκαὶ andοἱ theπρεσβύτεροι older menτοῦ of theλαοῦ peopleκατὰ down onτοῦ theἸησοῦ Jesusὥστε as-andθανατῶσαι to put to deathαὐτόν· him; 2  καὶ andδήσαντες having boundαὐτὸν himἀπήγαγον they led offκαὶ andπαρέδωκαν gave overΠειλάτῳ to Pilateτῷ theἡγεμόνι. governor. 3  Τότε Thenἰδὼν having seenἸούδας Judasthe (one)παραδοὺς having given overαὐτὸν himὅτι thatκατεκρίθη he was judged downμεταμεληθεὶς having felt remorseἔστρεψεν turned backτὰ theτριάκοντα thirtyἀργύρια silver [pieces]τοῖς to theἀρχιερεῦσιν chief priestsκαὶ andπρεσβυτέροις older men 4  λέγων sayingἭμαρτον I sinnedπαραδοὺς having given overαἷμα bloodδίκαιον. righteous.οἱ The (ones)δὲ butεἶπαν saidΤί Whatπρὸς towardἡμᾶς; us?σὺ YOUὄψῃ. will see. 5  καὶ Andῥίψας having castτὰ theἀργύρια silver [pieces]εἰς intoτὸν theναὸν divine habitationἀνεχώρησεν, he withdrew,καὶ andἀπελθὼν having gone offἀπήγξατο. he hanged himself. 6  Οἱ Theδὲ butἀρχιερεῖς chief priestsλαβόντες having takenτὰ theἀργύρια silver [pieces]εἶπαν saidΟὐκ Notἔξεστιν it is allowedβαλεῖν to throwαὐτὰ themεἰς intoτὸν theκορβανᾶν, sacred treasure,ἐπεὶ sinceτιμὴ priceαἵματός of bloodἐστιν· it is; 7  συμβούλιον counsel togetherδὲ butλαβόντες having takenἠγόρασαν they boughtἐξ out ofαὐτῶν themτὸν the᾿Αγρὸν Fieldτοῦ of theΚεραμέως Potterεἰς intoταφὴν burialτοῖς to theξένοις. strangers. 8  διὸ Through whichἐκλήθη was calledtheἀγρὸς fieldἐκεῖνος that᾿Αγρὸς FieldΑἵματος of Bloodἕως tillτῆς theσήμερον. today. 9  Τότε Thenἐπληρώθη was fulfilledτὸ the (thing)ῥηθὲν spokenδιὰ throughἸερεμίου Jeremiahτοῦ theπροφήτου prophetλέγοντος sayingΚαὶ Andἔλαβον they tookτὰ theτριάκοντα thirtyἀργύρια, silver [pieces],τὴν theτιμὴν priceτοῦ of the (one)τετιμημένου having been pricedὃν whomἐτιμήσαντο they pricedἀπὸ fromυἱῶν sonsἸσραήλ, of Israel, 10  καὶ andἔδωκαν they gaveαὐτὰ themεἰς intoτὸν theἀγρὸν fieldτοῦ of theκεραμέως, potter,καθὰ according to what thingsσυνέταξέν orderedμοι to meΚύριος. Lord. 11  Theδὲ butἸησοῦς Jesusἐστάθη stoodἔμπροσθεν in frontτοῦ of theἡγεμόνος· governor;καὶ andἐπηρώτησεν inquired uponαὐτὸν himtheἡγεμὼν governorλέγων sayingΣὺ Youεἶ aretheβασιλεὺς kingτῶν of theἸουδαίων; Jews?Theδὲ butἸησοῦς Jesusἔφη saidΣὺ Youλέγεις. you are saying. 12  καὶ Andἐν inτῷ theκατηγορεῖσθαι to be accusedαὐτὸν himὑπὸ byτῶν theἀρχιερέων chief priestsκαὶ andπρεσβυτέρων older menοὐδὲν nothingἀπεκρίνατο. he answered. 13  τότε Thenλέγει is sayingαὐτῷ to himtheΠειλᾶτος PilateΟὐκ Notἀκούεις you are hearingπόσα how many (things)σου of youκαταμαρτυροῦσιν; they are testifying against? 14  καὶ Andοὐκ notἀπεκρίθη he answeredαὐτῷ to himπρὸς towardοὐδὲ not-butἓν oneῥῆμα, saying,ὥστε as-andθαυμάζειν to be wonderingτὸν theἡγεμόνα governorλίαν. very much. 15  Κατὰ According toδὲ butἑορτὴν festivalεἰώθει was accustomedtheἡγεμὼν governorἀπολύειν to releaseἕνα oneτῷ to theὄχλῳ crowdδέσμιον bound oneὃν whomἤθελον. they were wanting. 16  εἶχον They were havingδὲ butτότε thenδέσμιον bound oneἐπίσημον notoriousλεγόμενον being saidΒαραββᾶν. Barabbas. 17  συνηγμένων Having been led togetherοὖν thereforeαὐτῶν of themεἶπεν saidαὐτοῖς to themtheΠειλᾶτος PilateΤίνα Whomθέλετε are you willingἀπολύσω I should releaseὑμῖν, to YOU,τὸν theΒαραββᾶν BarabbasorἸησοῦν Jesusτὸν theλεγόμενον being saidΧριστόν; Christ? 18  ᾔδει He had knownγὰρ forὅτι thatδιὰ throughφθόνον envyπαρέδωκαν they gave overαὐτόν. him. 19  Καθημένου Sittingδὲ butαὐτοῦ of himἐπὶ uponτοῦ theβήματος judgment seatἀπέστειλεν sent offπρὸς towardαὐτὸν himtheγυνὴ womanαὐτοῦ of himλέγουσα sayingΜηδὲν Nothingσοὶ to youκαὶ andτῷ to theδικαίῳ righteous (one)ἐκείνῳ, that,πολλὰ many (things)γὰρ forἔπαθον I sufferedσήμερον todayκατ’ according toὄναρ dreamδι’ throughαὐτόν. him. 20  Οἱ Theδὲ butἀρχιερεῖς chief priestsκαὶ andοἱ theπρεσβύτεροι older menἔπεισαν persuadedτοὺς theὄχλους crowdsἵνα in order thatαἰτήσωνται they should ask forτὸν theΒαραββᾶν Barabbasτὸν theδὲ butἸησοῦν Jesusἀπολέσωσιν. should they destroy. 21  ἀποκριθεὶς Having answeredδὲ buttheἡγεμὼν governorεἶπεν saidαὐτοῖς to themΤίνα Whomθέλετε are YOU willingἀπὸ fromτῶν theδύο twoἀπολύσω I should releaseὑμῖν; to YOU?οἱ The (ones)δὲ butεἶπαν saidΤὸν TheΒαραββᾶν. Barabbas. 22  λέγει Is sayingαὐτοῖς to themtheΠειλᾶτος PilateΤί Whatοὖν thereforeποιήσω shall I makeἸησοῦν Jesusτὸν theλεγόμενον being saidΧριστόν; Christ?λέγουσιν They are sayingπάντες allΣταυρωθήτω. Let him be put on the stake. 23  The (one)δὲ butἔφη saidΤί Whatγὰρ forκακὸν bad (things)ἐποίησεν; did he do?οἱ The (ones)δὲ butπερισσῶς abundantlyἔκραζον were crying outλέγοντες sayingΣταυρωθήτω. Let him be put on the stake. 24  ἰδὼν Having seenδὲ buttheΠειλᾶτος Pilateὅτι thatοὐδὲν nothingὠφελεῖ benefitsἀλλὰ butμᾶλλον ratherθόρυβος uproarγίνεται is occurringλαβὼν having takenὕδωρ waterἀπενίψατο he washed offτὰς theχεῖρας handsκατέναντι down oppositeτοῦ theὄχλου crowdλέγων saying᾿Αθῷός Innocentεἰμι I amἀπὸ fromτοῦ theαἵματος bloodτούτου· of this (one);ὑμεῖς YOUὄψεσθε. Jews. 38  Τότε Thenσταυροῦνται are put on stakesσὺν together withαὐτῷ himδύο twoλῃσταί, robbers,εἷς oneἐκ out ofδεξιῶν right-hand [parts]καὶ andεἷς oneἐξ out ofεὐωνύμων. left-hand [parts]. 39  Οἱ The (ones)δὲ butπαραπορευόμενοι passing alongἐβλασφήμουν were blasphemingαὐτὸν himκινοῦντες movingτὰς theκεφαλὰς headsαὐτῶν of them 40  καὶ andλέγοντες sayingThe (one)καταλύων loosing downτὸν theναὸν divine habitationκαὶ andἐν inτρισὶν threeἡμέραις daysοἰκοδομῶν, building,σῶσον saveσεαυτόν· yourself;εἰ ifυἱὸς sonεἶ you areτοῦ of theθεοῦ, God,κατάβηθι come downἀπὸ fromτοῦ theσταυροῦ. stake. 41  ὁμοίως Likewiseκαὶ alsoοἱ theἀρχιερεῖς chief priestsἐμπαίζοντες making fun ofμετὰ withτῶν theγραμματέων scribesκαὶ andπρεσβυτέρων older menἔλεγον were saying 42  Ἄλλους Othersἔσωσεν, he saved,ἑαυτὸν himselfοὐ notδύναται he is ableσῶσαι· to save;βασιλεὺς kingἸσραήλ of Israelἐστιν, he is,καταβάτω let him come downνῦν nowἀπὸ fromτοῦ theσταυροῦ stakeκαὶ andπιστεύσομεν we will believeἐπ’ uponαὐτόν. him. 43  Πέποιθεν He has trustedἐπὶ uponτὸν theθεόν, God,ῥυσάσθω let him rescueνῦν nowεἰ ifθέλει he is willingαὐτόν· him;εἶπεν he saidγὰρ forὅτι thatΘεοῦ of Godεἰμὶ I amυἱός.
