Matthew 17:1-27

17  Καὶ Andμεθ’ afterἡμέρας daysἓξ sixπαραλαμβάνει takes alongὁ theἸησοῦς Jesusτὸν theΠέτρον Peterκαὶ andἸάκωβον Jamesκαὶ andἸωάνην Johnτὸν theἀδελφὸν brotherαὐτοῦ, of him,καὶ andἀναφέρει brings upαὐτοὺς themεἰς intoὄρος mountainὑψηλὸν loftyκατ’ according toἰδίαν. private [spot]. 2  καὶ Andμετεμορφώθη he was transfiguredἔμπροσθεν in frontαὐτῶν, of them,καὶ andἔλαμψεν shoneτὸ theπρόσωπον faceαὐτοῦ of himὡς asὁ theἥλιος, sun,τὰ theδὲ butἱμάτια outer garmentsαὐτοῦ of himἐγένετο becameλευκὰ whiteὡς asτὸ theφῶς. light. 3  καὶ Andἰδοὺ look!ὤφθη was seenαὐτοῖς to themΜωυσῆς Mosesκαὶ andἨλείας Elijahσυνλαλοῦντες conversingμετ’ withαὐτοῦ. him. 4  ἀποκριθεὶς Having answeredδὲ butὁ theΠέτρος Peterεἶπεν saidτῷ to theἸησοῦ JesusΚύριε, Lord,καλόν fineἐστιν it isἡμᾶς usὧδε hereεἶναι· to be;εἰ ifθέλεις, you are willing,ποιήσω I shall makeὧδε hereτρεῖς threeσκηνάς, tents,σοὶ to youμίαν oneκαὶ andΜωυσεῖ to Mosesμίαν oneκαὶ andἨλείᾳ to Elijahμίαν. one. 5  ἔτι Yetαὐτοῦ of himλαλοῦντος speakingἰδοὺ look!νεφέλη cloudφωτινὴ lightsomeἐπεσκίασεν overshadowedαὐτούς, them,καὶ andἰδοὺ look!φωνὴ voiceἐκ out ofτῆς theνεφέλης cloudλέγουσα sayingΟὗτός Thisἐστιν isὁ theυἱός Sonμου of meὁ theἀγαπητός, beloved,ἐν inᾧ whomεὐδόκησα· I thought well;ἀκούετε you be hearingαὐτοῦ. of him. 6  καὶ Andἀκούσαντες having heardοἱ theμαθηταὶ disciplesἔπεσαν fellἐπὶ uponπρόσωπον faceαὐτῶν of themκαὶ andἐφοβήθησαν became fearfulσφόδρα. very much. 7  καὶ Andπροσῆλθεν came towardὁ theἸησοῦς Jesusκαὶ andἁψάμενος having touchedαὐτῶν of themεἶπεν said᾿Εγέρθητε Get upκαὶ andμὴ notφοβεῖσθε. be fearful. 8  ἐπάραντες Having lifted upδὲ butτοὺς theὀφθαλμοὺς eyesαὐτῶν of themοὐδένα no oneεἶδον they sawεἰ ifμὴ notαὐτὸν himἸησοῦν Jesusμόνον. only. 9  Καὶ Andκαταβαινόντων descendingαὐτῶν of themἐκ out ofτοῦ theὄρους mountainἐνετείλατο he enjoinedαὐτοῖς to themὁ theἸησοῦς Jesusλέγων sayingΜηδενὶ To no oneεἴπητε you should sayτὸ theὅραμα visionἕως untilοὗ whereὁ theυἱὸς Sonτοῦ of theἀνθρώπου manἐκ out ofνεκρῶν dead (ones)ἐγερθῇ. should be raised up. 10  Καὶ Andἐπηρώτησαν inquired uponαὐτὸν himοἱ theμαθηταὶ disciplesλέγοντες sayingΤί Whyοὖν thereforeοἱ theγραμματεῖς scribesλέγουσιν are sayingὅτι thatἨλείαν Elijahδεῖ it is necessaryἐλθεῖν to comeπρῶτον; first? 11  ὁ The (one)δὲ butἀποκριθεὶς having answeredεἶπεν saidἨλείας Elijahμὲν indeedἔρχεται is comingκαὶ andἀποκαταστήσει will restoreπάντα· all (things); 12  λέγω I am sayingδὲ butὑμῖν to YOUὅτι thatἨλείας Elijahἤδη alreadyἦλθεν, came,καὶ andοὐκ notἐπέγνωσαν they recognizedαὐτὸν himἀλλὰ butἐποίησαν they didἐν inαὐτῷ himὅσα as many (things) asἠθέλησαν· they willed;οὕτως thusκαὶ alsoὁ theυἱὸς Sonτοῦ of theἀνθρώπου manμέλλει is aboutπάσχειν to be sufferingὑπ’ byαὐτῶν. them. 13  τότε Thenσυνῆκαν perceivedοἱ theμαθηταὶ disciplesὅτι thatπερὶ aboutἸωάνου Johnτοῦ theβαπτιστοῦ Baptistεἶπεν he saidαὐτοῖς. to them. 14  Καὶ Andἐλθόντων of (them) having comeπρὸς towardτὸν theὄχλον crowdπροσῆλθεν came towardαὐτῷ himἄνθρωπος manγονυπετῶν kneeling down toαὐτὸν him 15  καὶ andλέγων sayingΚύριε, Lord,ἐλέησόν do mercy toμου of meτὸν theυἱόν, son,ὅτι becauseσεληνιάζεται he is moonstruckκαὶ andκακῶς badlyἔχει, is having,πολλάκις many timesγὰρ forπίπτει he fallsεἰς intoτὸ theπῦρ fireκαὶ andπολλάκις many timesεἰς intoτὸ theὕδωρ· water; 16  καὶ andπροσήνεγκα I brought towardαὐτὸν himτοῖς to theμαθηταῖς disciplesσου, of you,καὶ andοὐκ notἠδυνήθησαν they were ableαὐτὸν himθεραπεῦσαι. to cure. 17  ἀποκριθεὶς Having answeredδὲ butὁ theἸησοῦς Jesusεἶπεν said῏Ω Oγενεὰ generationἄπιστος faithlessκαὶ andδιεστραμμένη, having been twisted,ἕως tillπότε whenμεθ’ withὑμῶν youἔσομαι; will I be?ἕως Tillπότε whenἀνέξομαι will I put up withὑμῶν; YOU?φέρετέ Be bringingμοι to meαὐτὸν himὧδε. here. 18  καὶ Andἐπετίμησεν he gave rebukeαὐτῷ to itὁ theἸησοῦς, Jesus,καὶ andἐξῆλθεν came outἀπ’ fromαὐτοῦ himτὸ theδαιμόνιον· demon;καὶ andἐθεραπεύθη was curedὁ theπαῖς boyἀπὸ fromτῆς theὥρας hourἐκείνης. that. 19  Τότε Thenπροσελθόντες having come towardοἱ theμαθηταὶ disciplesτῷ to theἸησοῦ Jesusκατ’ according toἰδίαν private [spot]εἶπαν saidΔιὰ Throughτί whatἡμεῖς weοὐκ notἠδυνήθημεν were ableἐκβαλεῖν to expelαὐτό; it? 20  ὁ The (one)δὲ butλέγει is sayingαὐτοῖς to themΔιὰ Throughτὴν theὀλιγοπιστίαν little faithὑμῶν· of you;ἀμὴν trulyγὰρ forλέγω I am sayingὑμῖν, to YOU,ἐὰν if everἔχητε YOU may haveπίστιν faithὡς asκόκκον grainσινάπεως, of mustard,ἐρεῖτε YOU will sayτῷ to theὄρει mountainτούτῳ thisΜετάβα Transferἔνθεν from hereἐκεῖ, there,καὶ andμεταβήσεται, it will transfer,καὶ andοὐδὲν nothingἀδυνατήσει will be impossibleὑμῖν. to YOU. 21  —— —— 22  Συστρεφομένων Being turned togetherδὲ butαὐτῶν of themἐν inτῇ theΓαλιλαίᾳ Galileeεἶπεν saidαὐτοῖς to themὁ theἸησοῦς JesusΜέλλει Is aboutὁ theυἱὸς Sonτοῦ of theἀνθρώπου manπαραδίδοσθαι to be given overεἰς intoχεῖρας handsἀνθρώπων, of men, 23  καὶ andἀποκτενοῦσιν they will killαὐτόν, him,καὶ andτῇ to theτρίτῃ thirdἡμέρᾳ dayἐγερθήσεται. he will be raised up.καὶ Andἐλυπήθησαν they were grievedσφόδρα. very much. 24  ᾿Ελθόντων Having comeδὲ butαὐτῶν of themεἰς intoΚαφαρναοὺμ Capernaumπροσῆλθον came towardοἱ the (ones)τὰ theδίδραχμα double drachmasλαμβάνοντες receivingτῷ to theΠέτρῳ Peterκαὶ andεἶπαν saidὉ Theδιδάσκαλος teacherὑμῶν of YOUοὐ notτελεῖ is payingτὰ theδίδραχμα; double drachmas? 25  λέγει He is sayingΝαί. Yes.καὶ Andἐλθόντα having comeεἰς intoτὴν theοἰκίαν houseπροέφθασεν got ahead ofαὐτὸν himὁ theἸησοῦς Jesusλέγων sayingΤί Whatσοι to youδοκεῖ, seems,Σίμων; Simon?οἱ Theβασιλεῖς kingsτῆς of theγῆς earthἀπὸ fromτίνων what onesλαμβάνουσιν they are receivingτέλη dutiesἢ orκῆνσον; head tax?ἀπὸ Fromτῶν theυἱῶν sonsαὐτῶν of themἢ orἀπὸ fromτῶν theἀλλοτρίων; aliens? 26  εἰπόντος Of (him) having saidδέ but᾿Απὸ Fromτῶν theἀλλοτρίων, aliens,ἔφη saidαὐτῷ to himὁ theἸησοῦς JesusἌραγε Really thenἐλεύθεροί freeεἰσιν areοἱ theυἱοί· sons; 27  ἵνα in order thatδὲ butμὴ notσκανδαλίσωμεν we might stumbleαὐτούς, them,πορευθεὶς having gone your wayεἰς intoθάλασσαν seaβάλε throw youἄγκιστρον hookκαὶ andτὸν the (one)ἀναβάντα having come upπρῶτον firstἰχθὺν fishἆρον, lift up,καὶ andἀνοίξας having openedτὸ theστόμα mouthαὐτοῦ of itεὑρήσεις you will findστατῆρα· stater;ἐκεῖνον that oneλαβὼν having takenδὸς giveαὐτοῖς to themἀντὶ instead ofἐμοῦ meκαὶ andσοῦ. you.
