Mark 8:1-38

8  ᾿Εν Inἐκείναις thoseταῖς theἡμέραις daysπάλιν againπολλοῦ of muchὄχλου crowdὄντος beingκαὶ andμὴ notἐχόντων havingτί whatφάγωσιν, they might eat,προσκαλεσάμενος having called toward himselfτοὺς theμαθητὰς disciplesλέγει he is sayingαὐτοῖς to them 2  Σπλαγχνίζομαι I am feeling pityἐπὶ uponτὸν theὄχλον crowdὅτι becauseἤδη alreadyἡμέραι daysτρεῖς threeπροσμένουσίν they are remaining towardμοι meκαὶ andοὐκ notἔχουσιν they are havingτί whatφάγωσιν· they might eat; 3  καὶ andἐὰν if everἀπολύσω I should let loose offαὐτοὺς themνήστεις fastingεἰς intoοἶκον houseαὐτῶν, of them,ἐκλυθήσονται they will give outἐν inτῇ theὁδῷ· way;καί andτινες someαὐτῶν of themἀπὸ fromμακρόθεν far awayεἰσίν. are. 4  καὶ Andἀπεκρίθησαν they answeredαὐτῷ to himοἱ theμαθηταὶ disciplesαὐτοῦ of himὅτι thatΠόθεν From whereτούτους these (ones)δυνήσεταί will be ableτις anyoneὧδε hereχορτάσαι to satisfyἄρτων of loavesἐπ’ uponἐρημίας; lonely place? 5  καὶ Andἠρώτα he was requestingαὐτούς themΠόσους How manyἔχετε are YOU havingἄρτους; loaves?οἱ The (ones)δὲ butεἶπαν saidἙπτά. Twelve. 20  ὅτε Whenτοὺς theἑπτὰ sevenεἰς intoτοὺς theτετρακισχιλίους, four thousand,πόσων of how manyσφυρίδων provision basketsπληρώματα fillingsκλασμάτων of fragmentsἤρατε; YOU lifted up?καὶ Andλέγουσιν they are sayingαὐτῷ to himἙπτά. Seven. 21  καὶ Andἔλεγεν he was sayingαὐτοῖς to themΟὔπω Not yetσυνίετε; are YOU comprehending? 22  Καὶ Andἔρχονται they are comingεἰς intoΒηθσαιδάν. Christ. 30  καὶ Andἐπετίμησεν he gave rebukeαὐτοῖς to themἵνα in order thatμηδενὶ to no oneλέγωσιν they may be sayingπερὶ aboutαὐτοῦ. him. 31  Καὶ Andἤρξατο he startedδιδάσκειν to be teachingαὐτοὺς themὅτι thatδεῖ it is necessaryτὸν theυἱὸν Sonτοῦ of theἀνθρώπου manπολλὰ many (things)παθεῖν to sufferκαὶ andἀποδοκιμασθῆναι to be disapprovedὑπὸ byτῶν theπρεσβυτέρων older menκαὶ andτῶν theἀρχιερέων chief priestsκαὶ andτῶν theγραμματέων scribesκαὶ andἀποκτανθῆναι to be killedκαὶ andμετὰ afterτρεῖς threeἡμέρας daysἀναστῆναι· to stand up; 32  καὶ andπαρρησίᾳ to outspokennessτὸν theλόγον wordἐλάλει. he was speaking.καὶ Andπροσλαβόμενος taking toward himselftheΠέτρος Peterαὐτὸν himἤρξατο startedἐπιτιμᾷν to be giving rebukeαὐτῷ. to him. 33  The (one)δὲ butἐπιστραφεὶς having turned uponκαὶ andἰδὼν having seenτοὺς theμαθητὰς disciplesαὐτοῦ of himἐπετίμησεν he gave rebukeΠέτρῳ to Peterκαὶ andλέγει is sayingὝπαγε Be going underὀπίσω behindμου, me,Σατανᾶ, Satan,ὅτι becauseοὐ notφρονεῖς you are mindingτὰ the (things)τοῦ of theθεοῦ Godἀλλὰ butτὰ the (things)τῶν of theἀνθρώπων. men. 34  Καὶ Andπροσκαλεσάμενος having called to himselfτὸν theὄχλον crowdσὺν together withτοῖς theμαθηταῖς disciplesαὐτοῦ of himεἶπεν he saidαὐτοῖς to themΕἴ Ifτις anyoneθέλει is willingὀπίσω behindμου meἐλθεῖν, to come,ἀπαρνησάσθω let him disownἑαυτὸν himselfκαὶ andἀράτω let him lift upτὸν theσταυρὸν stakeαὐτοῦ of himκαὶ andἀκολουθείτω let him be followingμοι. me. 35  ὃς Whoγὰρ forἐὰν if everθέλῃ may willτὴν theἑαυτοῦ of himselfψυχὴν soulσῶσαι to saveἀπολέσει will loseαὐτήν· it;ὃς whoδ’ butἂν likelyἀπολέσει will loseτὴν theψυχὴν soulαὐτοῦ of himἕνεκεν on accountἐμοῦ of meκαὶ andτοῦ of theεὐαγγελίου good newsσώσει will saveαὐτήν. it. 36  τί Whatγὰρ forὠφελεῖ is benefitingἄνθρωπον manκερδῆσαι to gainτὸν theκόσμον worldὅλον wholeκαὶ andζημιωθῆναι to forfeitτὴν theψυχὴν soulαὐτοῦ; of him? 37  τί Whatγὰρ forδοῖ would giveἄνθρωπος manἀντάλλαγμα exchangeτῆς of theψυχῆς soulαὐτοῦ; of him? 38  ὃς Whoγὰρ forἐὰν if everἐπαισχυνθῇ should become ashamed ofμε meκαὶ andτοὺς theἐμοὺς myλόγους wordsἐν inτῇ theγενεᾷ generationταύτῃ thisτῇ theμοιχαλίδι adulterousκαὶ andἁμαρτωλῷ, sinful,καὶ alsotheυἱὸς Sonτοῦ of theἀνθρώπου manἐπαισχυνθήσεται will be ashamed ofαὐτὸν himὅταν wheneverἔλθῃ he might comeἐν inτῇ theδόξῃ gloryτοῦ of theπατρὸς Fatherαὐτοῦ of himμετὰ withτῶν theἀγγέλων angelsτῶν theἁγίων. holy.
