Acts 21:1-40

Jerusalem. 5  ὅτε Whenδὲ butἐγένετο it occurredἐξαρτίσαι to completeἡμᾶς usτὰς theἡμέρας, days,ἐξελθόντες having gone outἐπορευόμεθα we were goingπροπεμπόντων sending beforeἡμᾶς usπάντων of allσὺν together withγυναιξὶ womenκαὶ andτέκνοις childrenἕως untilἔξω outsideτῆς of theπόλεως, city,καὶ andθέντες having putτὰ theγόνατα kneesἐπὶ uponτὸν theαἰγιαλὸν beachπροσευξάμενοι having prayed 6  ἀπησπασάμεθα we exchange parting greetings toἀλλήλους, one anotherκαὶ andἐνέβημεν we stepped inεἰς intoτὸ theπλοῖον, boat,ἐκεῖνοι thoseδὲ butὑπέστρεψαν returnedεἰς intoτὰ theirἴδια. own (things). 7  Ἡμεῖς Weδὲ butτὸν theπλοῦν sailingδιανύσαντες having entirely performedἀπὸ fromΤύρου Tyreκατηντήσαμεν we attained downεἰς intoΠτολεμαΐδα, Ptolemais,καὶ andἀσπασάμενοι having greetedτοὺς theἀδελφοὺς brothersἐμείναμεν we remainedἡμέραν dayμίαν oneπαρ’ besideαὐτοῖς. them. 8  τῇ To theδὲ butἐπαύριον morrowἐξελθόντες having gone outἤλθαμεν we cameεἰς intoΚαισαρίαν, Caesarea,καὶ andεἰσελθόντες having enteredεἰς intoτὸν theοἶκον houseΦιλίππου of Philipτοῦ theεὐαγγελιστοῦ evangelistὄντος beingἐκ out ofτῶν theἑπτὰ sevenἐμείναμεν we remainedπαρ’ besideαὐτῷ. him. 9  τούτῳ To this (one)δὲ butἦσαν wereθυγατέρες daughtersτέσσαρες fourπαρθένοι virginsπροφητεύουσαι. prophesying. 10  ᾿Επιμενόντων Of (ones) remaining uponδὲ butἡμέρας daysπλείους moreκατῆλθέν came downτις someἀπὸ fromτῆς theἸουδαίας Judeaπροφήτης prophetὀνόματι to nameἌγαβος, Agabus, 11  καὶ andἐλθὼν having comeπρὸς towardἡμᾶς usκαὶ andἄρας having liftedτὴν theζώνην girdleτοῦ of theΠαύλου Paulδήσας having boundἑαυτοῦ of himselfτοὺς theπόδας feetκαὶ andτὰς theχεῖρας handsεἶπεν he saidΤάδε Theseλέγει is sayingτὸ theπνεῦμα spiritτὸ theἅγιον holyΤὸν Theἄνδρα male personοὗ of whomἐστὶν istheζώνη girdleαὕτη thisοὕτως thusδήσουσιν will bindἐν inἸερουσαλὴμ Jerusalemοἱ theἸουδαῖοι Jewsκαὶ andπαραδώσουσιν will give besideεἰς intoχεῖρας handsἐθνῶν. of nations. 12  ὡς Asδὲ butἠκούσαμεν we heardταῦτα, these (things),παρεκαλοῦμεν we entreatedἡμεῖς weτε andκαὶ andοἱ theἐντόπιοι (ones) in the placeτοῦ of theμὴ notἀναβαίνειν to be stepping upαὐτὸν himεἰς intoἸερουσαλήμ. Jerusalem. 13  τότε Thenἀπεκρίθη answeredtheΠαῦλος PaulΤί Whatποιεῖτε are YOU doingκλαίοντες weepingκαὶ andσυνθρύπτοντές crushing togetherμου of meτὴν theκαρδίαν; heart?ἐγὼ Iγὰρ forοὐ notμόνον onlyδεθῆναι to be boundἀλλὰ butκαὶ alsoἀποθανεῖν to dieεἰς intoἸερουσαλὴμ Jerusalemἑτοίμως readilyἔχω I am havingὑπὲρ overτοῦ theὀνόματος nameτοῦ of theκυρίου LordἸησοῦ. Jesus. 14  μὴ Notπειθομένου being persuadedδὲ butαὐτοῦ of himἡσυχάσαμεν we became silentεἰπόντες having saidΤοῦ Of theκυρίου Lordτὸ theθέλημα willγινέσθω. let be occurring. 15  Μετὰ Afterδὲ butτὰς theἡμέρας daysταύτας theseἐπισκευασάμενοι having put baggage on selvesἀνεβαίνομεν we were going upεἰς intoἸεροσόλυμα· Jerusalem; 16  συνῆλθον they came withδὲ butκαὶ alsoτῶν of theμαθητῶν disciplesἀπὸ fromΚαισαρίας Caesareaσὺν together withἡμῖν, us,ἄγοντες leadingπαρ’ besidewhomξενισθῶμεν we might be received as strangersΜνάσωνί to Mnasonτινι someΚυπρίῳ, Cyprian,ἀρχαίῳ originalμαθητῇ. disciple. 17  Γενομένων Having come to beδὲ butἡμῶν of usεἰς intoἸεροσόλυμα Jerusalemἀσμένως gladlyἀπεδέξαντο received fromἡμᾶς usοἱ theἀδελφοί. brothers. 18  τῇ To theδὲ butἐπιούσῃ succeeding [day]εἰσῄει had gone intheΠαῦλος Paulσὺν together withἡμῖν usπρὸς towardἸάκωβον, James,πάντες allτε andπαρεγένοντο came to be alongsideοἱ theπρεσβύτεροι. older men. 19  καὶ Andἀσπασάμενος having greetedαὐτοὺς themἐξηγεῖτο he was thoroughly relatingκαθ’ according toἓν one (thing)ἕκαστον eachὧν of whichἐποίησεν didtheθεὸς Godἐν inτοῖς theἔθνεσιν nationsδιὰ throughτῆς theδιακονίας serviceαὐτοῦ. of him. 20  οἱ The (ones)δὲ butἀκούσαντες having heardἐδόξαζον were glorifyingτὸν theθεόν, God,εἶπάν they saidτε andαὐτῷ to himΘεωρεῖς, YOU are beholding,ἀδελφέ, brother,πόσαι how manyμυριάδες myriadsεἰσὶν areἐν inτοῖς theἸουδαίοις Jewsτῶν of the (ones)πεπιστευκότων, having believed,καὶ andπάντες allζηλωταὶ zealotsτοῦ of theνόμου Lawὑπάρχουσιν· they are; 21  κατηχήθησαν they were taught by echo downδὲ butπερὶ aboutσοῦ youὅτι thatἀποστασίαν apostasyδιδάσκεις you are teachingἀπὸ fromΜωυσέως Mosesτοὺς the (ones)κατὰ downτὰ theἔθνη nationsπάντας allἸουδαίους, Jews,λέγων sayingμὴ notπεριτέμνειν to be circumcisingαὐτοὺς themτὰ theτέκνα childrenμηδὲ not-butτοῖς to theἔθεσιν customsπεριπατεῖν. to be walking about. 22  τί Whatοὖν thereforeἐστίν; is it?πάντως By all meansἀκούσονται they will hearὅτι thatἐλήλυθας. you have come. 23  τοῦτο Thisοὖν thereforeποίησον dowhich (thing)σοι to youλέγομεν· we are saying;εἰσὶν areἡμῖν to usἄνδρες male personsτέσσαρες fourεὐχὴν vowἔχοντες havingἀφ’ fromἑαυτῶν. themselves. 24  τούτους Theseπαραλαβὼν having taken alongἁγνίσθητι be purifiedσὺν together withαὐτοῖς themκαὶ andδαπάνησον spendἐπ’ uponαὐτοῖς themἵνα in order thatξυρήσονται they will shaveτὴν theκεφαλήν, head,καὶ andγνώσονται will knowπάντες allὅτι thatὧν of which (things)κατήχηνται they have been taught by echo downπερὶ aboutσοῦ youοὐδὲν nothingἔστιν, it is,ἀλλὰ butστοιχεῖς you are walking orderlyκαὶ alsoαὐτὸς very oneφυλάσσων guardingτὸν theνόμον. Law. 25  περὶ Aboutδὲ butτῶν of theπεπιστευκότων having believedἐθνῶν nationsἡμεῖς weἀπεστείλαμεν sent offκρίναντες having judgedφυλάσσεσθαι to be guarding selvesαὐτοὺς themτό theτε andεἰδωλόθυτον idol sacrificeκαὶ andαἷμα bloodκαὶ andπνικτὸν (thing) strangledκαὶ andπορνείαν. fornication. 26  τότε ThentheΠαῦλος Paulπαραλαβὼν having taken alongτοὺς theἄνδρας male personsτῇ to theἐχομένῃ being nextἡμέρᾳ dayσὺν together withαὐτοῖς themἁγνισθεὶς having been purifiedεἰσῄει he had enteredεἰς intoτὸ theἱερόν, temple,διαγγέλλων publishingτὴν theἐκπλήρωσιν fulfillmentτῶν of theἡμερῶν daysτοῦ of theἁγνισμοῦ purificationἕως untilοὗ whichπροσηνέχθη was offeredὑπὲρ overἑνὸς oneἑκάστου eachαὐτῶν of themtheπροσφορά. offering. 27  Ὡς Asδὲ butἔμελλον were being aboutαἱ theἑπτὰ sevenἡμέραι daysσυντελεῖσθαι, to be concluded,οἱ theἀπὸ fromτῆς the᾿Ασίας AsiaἸουδαῖοι Jewsθεασάμενοι having viewedαὐτὸν himἐν inτῷ theἱερῷ templeσυνέχεον they were confusingπάντα allτὸν theὄχλον crowdκαὶ andἐπέβαλαν they imposedἐπ’ uponαὐτὸν himτὰς theχεῖρας, hands, 28  κράζοντες crying outἌνδρες Male personsἸσραηλεῖται, Israelites,βοηθεῖτε· be YOU helping;οὗτός thisἐστιν istheἄνθρωπος manthe (one)κατὰ down onτοῦ theλαοῦ peopleκαὶ andτοῦ theνόμου Lawκαὶ andτοῦ theτόπου placeτούτου thisπάντας all (ones)πανταχῇ everywhereδιδάσκων, teaching,ἔτι yetτε andκαὶ alsoἝλληνας Greeksεἰσήγαγεν he led inεἰς intoτὸ theἱερὸν templeκαὶ andκεκοίνωκεν he has made commonτὸν theἅγιον holyτόπον placeτοῦτον. this. 29  ἦσαν They wereγὰρ forπροεωρακότες having previously seenΤρόφιμον Trophimusτὸν the᾿Εφέσιον Ephesianἐν inτῇ theπόλει cityσὺν together withαὐτῷ, him,ὃν whomἐνόμιζον they opinedὅτι thatεἰς intoτὸ theἱερὸν templeεἰσήγαγεν led intheΠαῦλος. Paul. 30  ἐκινήθη Was set in motionτε andtheπόλις cityὅλη wholeκαὶ andἐγένετο occurredσυνδρομὴ running togetherτοῦ of theλαοῦ, people,καὶ andἐπιλαβόμενοι having laid holdτοῦ of theΠαύλου Paulεἷλκον they were draggingαὐτὸν himἔξω outsideτοῦ of theἱεροῦ, temple,καὶ andεὐθέως immediatelyἐκλείσθησαν were closedαἱ theθύραι. doors. 31  Ζητούντων Of (ones) seekingτε andαὐτὸν himἀποκτεῖναι to killἀνέβη stepped upφάσις showingτῷ to theχιλιάρχῳ chiliarchτῆς of theσπείρης bandὅτι thatὅλη wholeσυνχύννεται is being confusedἸερουσαλήμ, Jerusalem, 32  ὃς whoἐξαυτῆς out of very [hour]παραλαβὼν having taken alongστρατιώτας soldiersκαὶ andἑκατοντάρχας centurionsκατέδραμεν he ran downἐπ’ uponαὐτούς, them,οἱ the (ones)δὲ butἰδόντες having seenτὸν theχιλίαρχον chiliarchκαὶ andτοὺς theστρατιώτας soldiersἐπαύσαντο they ceasedτύπτοντες beatingτὸν theΠαῦλον. Paul. 33  τότε Thenἐγγίσας having come neartheχιλίαρχος chiliarchἐπελάβετο laid holdαὐτοῦ of himκαὶ andἐκέλευσε he commandedδεθῆναι to be boundἁλύσεσι to chainsδυσί, two,καὶ andἐπυνθάνετο he was inquiringτίς whoεἴη he may beκαὶ andτί whatἐστιν he isπεποιηκώς· having done; 34  ἄλλοι othersδὲ butἄλλο anotherτι somethingἐπεφώνουν were sounding uponἐν inτῷ theὄχλῳ· crowd;μὴ notδυναμένου being ableδὲ butαὐτοῦ of himγνῶναι to knowτὸ theἀσφαλὲς steady (thing)διὰ throughτὸν theθόρυβον tumultἐκέλευσεν he commandedἄγεσθαι to be ledαὐτὸν himεἰς intoτὴν theπαρεμβολήν. encampment. 35  ὅτε Whenδὲ butἐγένετο he came to beἐπὶ uponτοὺς theἀναβαθμούς, steps up,συνέβη it stepped togetherβαστάζεσθαι to be being carriedαὐτὸν himὑπὸ byτῶν theστρατιωτῶν soldiersδιὰ throughτὴν theβίαν violenceτοῦ of theὄχλου, crowd, 36  ἠκολούθει was followingγὰρ forτὸ theπλῆθος multitudeτοῦ of theλαοῦ peopleκράζοντες crying outΑἶρε Lift upαὐτόν. him. 37  Μέλλων Being aboutτε andεἰσάγεσθαι to be led inεἰς intoτὴν theπαρεμβολὴν encampmenttheΠαῦλος Paulλέγει is sayingτῷ to theχιλιάρχῳ chiliarchΕἰ Ifἔξεστίν it is lawfulμοι to meεἰπεῖν to sayτι somethingπρὸς towardσέ; you?The (one)δὲ butἔφη saidἙλληνιστὶ In Greekγινώσκεις; you are knowing? 38  οὐκ Notἄρα reallyσὺ youεἶ aretheΑἰγύπτιος Egyptianthe (one)πρὸ beforeτούτων theseτῶν theἡμερῶν daysἀναστατώσας having stirred up seditionκαὶ andἐξαγαγὼν having led outεἰς intoτὴν theἔρημον desolate [place]τοὺς theτετρακισχιλίους four thousandἄνδρας male personsτῶν of theσικαρίων; Sicarii? 39  εἶπεν Saidδὲ buttheΠαῦλος Paul᾿Εγὼ Iἄνθρωπος manμέν indeedεἰμι I amἸουδαῖος, Jew,Ταρσεὺς Tarsianτῆς of theΚιλικίας, Cilicia,οὐκ notἀσήμου of insignificantπόλεως cityπολίτης· citizen;δέομαι I supplicateδέ butσου, of you,ἐπίτρεψόν permitμοι to meλαλῆσαι to speakπρὸς towardτὸν theλαόν. people. 40  ἐπιτρέψαντος Having permittedδὲ butαὐτοῦ of himtheΠαῦλος Paulἑστὼς having stoodἐπὶ uponτῶν theἀναβαθμῶν steps upκατέσεισε shook downτῇ to theχειρὶ handτῷ to theλαῷ, people,πολλῆς of muchδὲ butσιγῆς silenceγενομένης having occurredπροσεφώνησεν he sounded towardτῇ to the᾿Εβραΐδι Hebrewδιαλέκτῳ languageλέγων saying
