Acts 12:1-25

12  Κατ’ Downἐκεῖνον thatδὲ butτὸν theκαιρὸν appointed timeἐπέβαλεν thrust uponἩρῴδης Herodὁ theβασιλεὺς kingτὰς theχεῖρας handsκακῶσαί to treat badlyτινας someτῶν of theἀπὸ fromτῆς theἐκκλησίας. ecclesia. 2  ἀνεῖλεν He took upδὲ butἸάκωβον Jamesτὸν theἀδελφὸν brotherἸωάνου of Johnμαχαίρῃ. to sword. 3  ἰδὼν Having seenδὲ butὅτι thatἀρεστόν pleasingἐστιν it isτοῖς to theἸουδαίοις Jewsπροσέθετο he addedσυλλαβεῖν to take withκαὶ alsoΠέτρον, Peter,ἦσαν wereδὲ butἡμέραι daysτῶν of theἀζύμων, unleavened (cakes), 4  ὃν whomκαὶ alsoπιάσας having laid hold ofἔθετο he putεἰς intoφυλακήν, prison,παραδοὺς having given besideτέσσαρσιν to fourτετραδίοις sets of fourστρατιωτῶν of soldiersφυλάσσειν to be guardingαὐτόν, him,βουλόμενος wishingμετὰ afterτὸ theπάσχα passoverἀναγαγεῖν to lead upαὐτὸν himτῷ to theλαῷ. people. 5  ὁ Theμὲν indeedοὖν thereforeΠέτρος Peterἐτηρεῖτο was being observedἐν inτῇ theφυλακῇ· prison;προσευχὴ prayerδὲ butἦν wasἐκτενῶς intenselyγινομένη occurringὑπὸ byτῆς theἐκκλησίας ecclesiaπρὸς towardτὸν theθεὸν Godπερὶ aboutαὐτοῦ. him. 6  Ὅτε Whenδὲ butἤμελλεν he was being aboutπροσαγαγεῖν to lead forthαὐτὸν himὁ theἩρῴδης, Herod,τῇ to theνυκτὶ nightἐκείνῃ thatἦν wasὁ theΠέτρος Peterκοιμώμενος sleepingμεταξὺ betweenδύο twoστρατιωτῶν soldiersδεδεμένος having been boundἁλύσεσιν to chainsδυσίν, two,φύλακές guardsτε andπρὸ beforeτῆς theθύρας doorἐτήρουν were observingτὴν theφυλακήν. prison. 7  καὶ Andἰδοὺ look!ἄγγελος angelΚυρίου of Lordἐπέστη, stood upon,καὶ andφῶς lightἔλαμψεν shoneἐν inτῷ theοἰκήματι· dwelling;πατάξας having smittenδὲ butτὴν theπλευρὰν sideτοῦ of theΠέτρου Peterἤγειρεν he raised upαὐτὸν himλέγων saying᾿Ανάστα Stand upἐν inτάχει· haste;καὶ andἐξέπεσαν fell outαὐτοῦ of himαἱ theἁλύσεις chainsἐκ out ofτῶν theχειρῶν. hands. 8  εἶπεν Saidδὲ butὁ theἄγγελος angelπρὸς towardαὐτόν himΖῶσαι Girdκαὶ andὑπόδησαι bind underτὰ theσανδάλιά sandalsσου· of you;ἐποίησεν he didδὲ butοὕτως. thus.καὶ Andλέγει is sayingαὐτῷ to himΠεριβαλοῦ Throw aroundτὸ theἱμάτιόν outer garmentσου of youκαὶ andἀκολούθει be following,μοι· to me; 9  καὶ andἐξελθὼν having gone outἠκολούθει, he was following,καὶ andοὐκ notᾔδει he had knownὅτι thatἀληθές trueἐστιν isτὸ the (thing)γινόμενον occurringδιὰ throughτοῦ theἀγγέλου, angel,ἐδόκει he was thinkingδὲ butὅραμα visionβλέπειν. to be seeing. 10  διελθόντες Having gone throughδὲ butπρώτην firstφυλακὴν guardκαὶ andδευτέραν secondἦλθαν they cameἐπὶ uponτὴν theπύλην gateτὴν theσιδηρᾶν ironτὴν theφέρουσαν bearingεἰς intoτὴν theπόλιν, city,ἥτις whichαὐτομάτη self-actingἠνοίγη was opened upαὐτοῖς, to them,καὶ andἐξελθόντες having gone outπροῆλθον they went forthῥύμην streetμίαν, one,καὶ andεὐθέως immediatelyἀπέστη stood off fromὁ theἄγγελος angelἀπ’ fromαὐτοῦ. him. 11  καὶ Andὁ theΠέτρος Peterἐν inἑαυτῷ himselfγενόμενος having come to beεἶπεν he saidΝῦν Nowοἶδα I have knownἀληθῶς trulyὅτι thatἐξαπέστειλεν sent off outὁ theκύριος Lordτὸν theἄγγελον angelαὐτοῦ of himκαὶ andἐξείλατό took outμε meἐκ out ofχειρὸς handἩρῴδου of Herodκαὶ andπάσης of allτῆς theπροσδοκίας expectationτοῦ of theλαοῦ peopleτῶν of theἸουδαίων. Jews. 12  Συνιδών Having seen togetherτε andἦλθεν he cameἐπὶ uponτὴν theοἰκίαν houseτῆς of theΜαρίας Maryτῆς theμητρὸς motherἸωάνου of Johnτοῦ the (one)ἐπικαλουμένου being surnamedΜάρκου, Mark,οὗ whereἦσαν wereἱκανοὶ sufficientσυνηθροισμένοι having been crowded togetherκαὶ andπροσευχόμενοι. praying. 13  κρούσαντος Having knockedδὲ butαὐτοῦ of himτὴν theθύραν doorτοῦ of theπυλῶνος gatewayπροσῆλθε came towardπαιδίσκη servant girlὑπακοῦσαι to obeyὀνόματι to nameῬόδη, Rhoda, 14  καὶ andἐπιγνοῦσα having recognizedτὴν theφωνὴν voiceτοῦ of theΠέτρου Peterἀπὸ fromτῆς theχαρᾶς joyοὐκ notἤνοιξεν she opened upτὸν theπυλῶνα, gateway,εἰσδραμοῦσα having run inδὲ butἀπήγγειλεν she reported backἑστάναι to standτὸν theΠέτρον Peterπρὸ beforeτοῦ theπυλῶνος. gateway. 15  οἱ The (ones)δὲ butπρὸς towardαὐτὴν herεἶπαν saidΜαίνῃ.
