Acts 1:1-26

1  Τὸν Theμὲν indeedπρῶτον firstλόγον wordἐποιησάμην I madeπερὶ aboutπάντων, all (things),ὦ OΘεόφιλε, Theophilus,ὧν of whichἤρξατο startedἸησοῦς Jesusποιεῖν to be doingτε andκαὶ alsoδιδάσκειν to be teaching 2  ἄχρι untilἧς whichἡμέρας dayἐντειλάμενος having given commandmentτοῖς to theἀποστόλοις apostlesδιὰ throughπνεύματος spiritἁγίου holyοὓς whomἐξελέξατο he choseἀνελήμφθη· he was received up; 3  οἷς to whomκαὶ alsoπαρέστησεν he made stand besideἑαυτὸν himselfζῶντα livingμετὰ afterτὸ theπαθεῖν to sufferαὐτὸν himἐν inπολλοῖς manyτεκμηρίοις, tokens,δι’ throughἡμερῶν daysτεσσεράκοντα fortyὀπτανόμενος being seenαὐτοῖς to themκαὶ andλέγων sayingτὰ the (things)περὶ aboutτῆς theβασιλείας kingdomτοῦ of theθεοῦ. God. 4  καὶ Andσυναλιζόμενος being met togetherπαρήγγειλεν he gave ordersαὐτοῖς to themἀπὸ fromἸεροσολύμων Jerusalemμὴ notχωρίζεσθαι, to withdraw,ἀλλὰ butπεριμένειν to be remaining around forτὴν theἐπαγγελίαν promiseτοῦ of theπατρὸς Fatherἣν whichἠκούσατέ YOU heardμου· of me; 5  ὅτι becauseἸωάνης Johnμὲν indeedἐβάπτισεν baptizedὕδατι, to water,ὑμεῖς YOUδὲ butἐν inπνεύματι spiritβαπτισθήσεσθε will be baptizedἁγίῳ to holyοὐ notμετὰ afterπολλὰς manyταύτας theseἡμέρας. days. 6  Οἱ The (ones)μὲν indeedοὖν thereforeσυνελθόντες having come togetherἠρώτων they were questioningαὐτὸν himλέγοντες sayingΚύριε, Lord,εἰ ifἐν inτῷ theχρόνῳ timeτούτῳ thisἀποκαθιστάνεις are you restoringτὴν theβασιλείαν kingdomτῷ to theἸσραήλ; Israel? 7  εἶπεν He saidπρὸς towardαὐτούς themΟὐχ Notὑμῶν of YOUἐστὶν it isγνῶναι to knowχρόνους timesἢ orκαιροὺς appointed timesοὓς whichὁ theπατὴρ Fatherἔθετο putἐν inτῇ theἰδίᾳ ownἐξουσίᾳ, authority, 8  ἀλλὰ butλήμψεσθε YOU will receiveδύναμιν powerἐπελθόντος having come uponτοῦ of theἁγίου holyπνεύματος spiritἐφ’ uponὑμᾶς, YOU,καὶ andἔσεσθέ YOU will beμου of meμάρτυρες witnessesἔν inτε andἸερουσαλὴμ Jerusalemκαὶ andἐν inπάσῃ allτῇ theἸουδαίᾳ Judeaκαὶ andΣαμαρίᾳ Samariaκαὶ andἕως untilἐσχάτου extremityτῆς of theγῆς. earth. 9  καὶ Andταῦτα these (things)εἰπὼν having saidβλεπόντων lookingαὐτῶν of themἐπήρθη, he was lifted up,καὶ andνεφέλη cloudὑπέλαβεν took from underneathαὐτὸν himἀπὸ fromτῶν theὀφθαλμῶν eyesαὐτῶν. of them. 10  καὶ Andὡς asἀτενίζοντες gazingἦσαν they wereεἰς intoτὸν theοὐρανὸν heavenπορευομένου going his wayαὐτοῦ, of him,καὶ andἰδοὺ look!ἄνδρες male personsδύο twoπαριστήκεισαν had stood alongsideαὐτοῖς to themἐν inἐσθήσεσι garmentsλευκαῖς, white, 11  οἳ whoκαὶ alsoεἶπαν saidἌνδρες Male personsΓαλιλαῖοι, Galileans,τί whyἑστήκατε have YOU stoodβλέποντες lookingεἰς intoτὸν theοὐρανόν; heaven?οὗτος Thisὁ theἸησοῦς Jesusὁ the (one)ἀναλημφθεὶς having been received upἀφ’ fromὑμῶν YOUεἰς intoτὸν theοὐρανὸν heavenοὕτως thusἐλεύσεται will comeὃν whichτρόπον mannerἐθεάσασθε YOU viewedαὐτὸν himπορευόμενον going his wayεἰς intoτὸν theοὐρανόν. heaven. 12  Τότε Thenὑπέστρεψαν they returnedεἰς intoἸερουσαλὴμ Jerusalemἀπὸ fromὄρους mountainτοῦ the (one)καλουμένου being called᾿Ελαιῶνος, of Olive grove,ὅ whichἐστιν isἐγγὺς nearἸερουσαλὴμ Jerusalemσαββάτου of sabbathἔχον havingὁδόν. way. 13  Καὶ Andὅτε whenεἰσῆλθον, they entered,εἰς intoτὸ theὑπερῷον upper chamberἀνέβησαν they went upοὗ whereἦσαν they wereκαταμένοντες, remaining down,ὅ theτε andΠέτρος Peterκαὶ andἸωάνης Johnκαὶ andἸάκωβος Jamesκαὶ and᾿Ανδρέας, Andrew,Φίλιππος Philipκαὶ andΘωμᾶς, Thomas,Βαρθολομαῖος Bartholomewκαὶ andΜαθθαῖος, Matthew,Ἰάκωβος JamesἉλφαίου of Alphaeusκαὶ andΣίμων Simonὁ theζηλωτὴς zealotκαὶ andἸούδας JudasἸακώβου. of James. 14  οὗτοι Theseπάντες allἦσαν wereπροσκαρτεροῦντες perseveringὁμοθυμαδὸν like-mindedlyτῇ to theπροσευχῇ prayerσὺν together withγυναιξὶν womenκαὶ andΜαριὰμ Maryτῇ to theμητρὶ motherτοῦ of theἸησοῦ Jesusκαὶ andσὺν together withτοῖς theἀδελφοῖς brothersαὐτοῦ. of him. 15  Καὶ Andἐν inταῖς theἡμέραις daysταύταις theseἀναστὰς having stood upΠέτρος Peterἐν inμέσῳ midstτῶν of theἀδελφῶν brothersεἶπεν saidἦν wasτε andὄχλος crowdὀνομάτων of namesἐπὶ uponτὸ theαὐτὸ very (thing)ὡς asἑκατὸν hundredεἴκοσι twenty 16  Ἄνδρες Male personsἀδελφοί, brothers,ἔδει it was necessaryπληρωθῆναι to be fulfilledτὴν theγραφὴν scriptureἣν whichπροεῖπε foretoldτὸ theπνεῦμα spiritτὸ theἅγιον holyδιὰ throughστόματος mouthΔαυεὶδ of Davidπερὶ aboutἸούδα Judasτοῦ of the (one)γενομένου having becomeὁδηγοῦ guideτοῖς to the (ones)συλλαβοῦσιν having taken withἸησοῦν, Jesus, 17  ὅτι becauseκατηριθμημένος having been numbered downἦν he wasἐν inἡμῖν usκαὶ andἔλαχεν obtainedτὸν theκλῆρον lotτῆς of theδιακονίας serviceταύτης.— this.— 18  Οὗτος This (one)μὲν indeedοὖν thereforeἐκτήσατο acquiredχωρίον piece of groundἐκ out ofμισθοῦ wagesτῆς of theἀδικίας, unrighteousness,καὶ andπρηνὴς headlongγενόμενος having becomeἐλάκησεν he burst with crashμέσος, middle,καὶ andἐξεχύθη was poured outπάντα allτὰ theσπλάγχνα intestinesαὐτοῦ. of him. 19  καὶ Andγνωστὸν knownἐγένετο it becameπᾶσι to allτοῖς the (ones)κατοικοῦσιν inhabitingἸερουσαλήμ, Jerusalem,ὥστε as-andκληθῆναι to be calledτὸ theχωρίον piece of groundἐκεῖνο thatτῇ to theδιαλέκτῳ languageαὐτῶν of themἉκελδαμάχ, Akeldama,τοῦτ’ thisἔστιν isΧωρίον Piece of groundΑἵματος.— of Blood.— 20  Γέγραπται It has been writtenγὰρ forἐν inΒίβλῳ BookΨαλμῶν of PsalmsΓενηθήτω Let becomeἡ theἔπαυλις lodging placeαὐτοῦ of himἔρημος desolateκαὶ andμὴ notἔστω let beὁ the (one)κατοικῶν inhabitingἐν inαὐτῇ, it,καί andΤὴν Theἐπισκοπὴν overseershipαὐτοῦ of himλαβέτω let takeἕτερος. different (one). 21  δεῖ It is necessaryοὖν thereforeτῶν of the (ones)συνελθόντων having come togetherἡμῖν to usἀνδρῶν of male personsἐν inπαντὶ allχρόνῳ timeᾧ to whichεἰσῆλθεν went inκαὶ andἐξῆλθεν went outἐφ’ uponἡμᾶς usὁ theκύριος LordἸησοῦς, Jesus, 22  ἀρξάμενος having startedἀπὸ fromτοῦ theβαπτίσματος baptismἸωάνου of Johnἕως untilτῆς theἡμέρας dayἧς of whichἀνελήμφθη he was received upἀφ’ fromἡμῶν, us,μάρτυρα witnessτῆς of theἀναστάσεως resurrectionαὐτοῦ of himσὺν together withἡμῖν usγενέσθαι to becomeἕνα oneτούτων. of these. 23  καὶ Andἔστησαν they made to standδύο, two,Ἰωσὴφ Josephτὸν the (one)καλούμενον being calledΒαρσαββᾶν, Barsabbas,ὃς whoἐπεκλήθη was surnamedἸοῦστος, Justus,καὶ andΜαθθίαν. Matthias. 24  καὶ Andπροσευξάμενοι having prayedεἶπαν they saidΣὺ Youκύριε Lordκαρδιογνῶστα knower of heartsπάντων, of all,ἀνάδειξον show upὃν whomἐξελέξω, you chose,ἐκ out ofτούτων theseτῶν theδύο twoἕνα, one, 25  λαβεῖν to receiveτὸν theτόπον placeτῆς of theδιακονίας serviceταύτης thisκαὶ andἀποστολῆς, apostleship,ἀφ’ fromἧς whichπαρέβη went asideἸούδας Judasπορευθῆναι to goεἰς intoτὸν theτόπον placeτὸν theἴδιον. own. 26  καὶ Andἔδωκαν they gaveκλήρους lotsαὐτοῖς, to them,καὶ andἔπεσεν fellὁ theκλῆρος lotἐπὶ uponΜαθθίαν, Matthias,καὶ andσυνκατεψηφίσθη he was reckoned alongμετὰ withτῶν theἕνδεκα elevenἀποστόλων. apostles.
