3 John 1:1-14

1  Theπρεσβύτερος older manΓαίῳ to Gaiusτῷ theἀγαπητῷ, loved (one),ὃν whomἐγὼ Iἀγαπῶ am lovingἐν inἀληθείᾳ. truth. 2  ᾿Αγαπητέ, Loved (one),περὶ aboutπάντων all (things)εὔχομαί I am prayingσε youεὐοδοῦσθαι to make one’s way wellκαὶ andὑγιαίνειν, to be in health,καθὼς according asεὐοδοῦταί is making its way wellσου of youtheψυχή. soul. 3  ἐχάρην I rejoicedγὰρ forλίαν excessivelyἐρχομένων of (ones) comingἀδελφῶν of brothersκαὶ andμαρτυρούντων of (ones) bearing witnessσου of youτῇ to theἀληθείᾳ, truth,καθὼς according asσὺ youἐν inἀληθείᾳ truthπεριπατεῖς. you are walking about. 4  μειζοτέραν More greaterτούτων of these (things)οὐκ notἔχω I am havingχάριν, thankfulness,ἵνα in order thatἀκούω I may be hearingτὰ theἐμὰ myτέκνα childrenἐν inτῇ theἀληθείᾳ truthπεριπατοῦντα. walking about. 5  ᾿Αγαπητέ, Loved (one),πιστὸν faithful (thing)ποιεῖς you are doingwhich (thing)ἐὰν if everἐργάσῃ you should workεἰς intoτοὺς theἀδελφοὺς brothersκαὶ andτοῦτο thisξένους, strangers, 6  οἳ whoἐμαρτύρησάν bore witnessσου of youτῇ to theἀγάπῃ loveἐνώπιον in sightἐκκλησίας, of ecclesia,οὓς which (ones)καλῶς finelyποιήσεις you will doπροπέμψας having sent forwardἀξίως worthilyτοῦ of theθεοῦ· God; 7  ὑπὲρ overγὰρ forτοῦ theὀνόματος nameἐξῆλθαν they went outμηδὲν nothingλαμβάνοντες receivingἀπὸ fromτῶν theἐθνικῶν. nationals. 8  ἡμεῖς Weοὖν thereforeὀφείλομεν we are owingὑπολαμβάνειν to be receiving underτοὺς theτοιούτους, such ones,ἵνα in order thatσυνεργοὶ fellow workersγινώμεθα we may becomeτῇ to theἀληθείᾳ. truth. 9  Ἔγραψά I wroteτι somethingτῇ to theἐκκλησίᾳ· ecclesia;ἀλλ’ butthe (one)φιλοπρωτεύων liking to be firstαὐτῶν of themΔιοτρέφης Diotrephesοὐκ notἐπιδέχεται is receiving uponἡμᾶς. us. 10  διὰ Throughτοῦτο, this,ἐὰν if everἔλθω, I should come,ὑπομνήσω I shall bring under remembranceαὐτοῦ of himτὰ theἔργα workswhichποιεῖ, he is doing,λόγοις to wordsπονηροῖς wickedφλυαρῶν chattering aboutἡμᾶς, us,καὶ andμὴ notἀρκούμενος being satisfiedἐπὶ uponτούτοις these (things)οὔτε neitherαὐτὸς heἐπιδέχεται is receiving uponτοὺς theἀδελφοὺς brothersκαὶ andτοὺς the (ones)βουλομένους wishingκωλύει he is hinderingκαὶ andἐκ out ofτῆς theἐκκλησίας ecclesiaἐκβάλλει. he is throwing out. 11  ᾿Αγαπητέ, Loved (one),μὴ notμιμοῦ be you imitatingτὸ theκακὸν bad (thing)ἀλλὰ butτὸ theἀγαθόν. good (thing).The (one)ἀγαθοποιῶν doing goodἐκ out ofτοῦ theθεοῦ Godἐστίν· is;the (one)κακοποιῶν doing badοὐχ notἑώρακεν has seenτὸν theθεόν. God. 12  Δημητρίῳ To Demetriusμεμαρτύρηται witness has been borneὑπὸ byπάντων all (ones)καὶ andὑπὸ byαὐτῆς veryτῆς theἀληθείας· truth;καὶ andἡμεῖς weδὲ butμαρτυροῦμεν, are bearing witness,καὶ andοἶδας you have knownὅτι thattheμαρτυρία witnessἡμῶν of usἀληθής trueἐστιν. is. 13  Πολλὰ Many (things)εἶχον I was havingγράψαι to writeσοι, to you,ἀλλ’ butοὐ notθέλω I am willingδιὰ throughμέλανος black [ink]καὶ andκαλάμου reedσοι to youγράφειν· to be writing; 14  ἐλπίζω I am hopingδὲ butεὐθέως immediatelyσε youἰδεῖν, to see,καὶ andστόμα mouthπρὸς towardστόμα mouthλαλήσομεν. we shall speak. Εἰρήνη Peaceσοι. to you. ἀσπάζονταί Are greetingσε youοἱ theφίλοι. friends.ἀσπάζου Be greetingτοὺς theφίλους friendsκατ’ according toὄνομα. name.
